The colors are for the 1971 GS only (not all cars), Cortez gold was the #1 seller. I have taken a screenshot off my webpage and posted the chart here, its pretty common knowledge. More info on my webpages. Your car is a 71 GS like mine so I have the info handy. I'm fine now that I've had back surgery (long story) and recovering! 2018 has been a bit of a disaster. Cars are good, 0 miles this year. More than ever I say paint it any color you want, I was just showing that the original gold was a very popular color for these cars in 1971. Looking forward to new pics in the color you choose!! The following is for 1971 GS COUPES ONLY:
Olds actually called Cortez gold a high impact special order color in 71. They called it Saturn Gold to confuse things even more. Their other special order colors were Lime Green, Bittersweet and Viking Blue(Stratomist). All same colors used by Buick.
For years I didn’t realize the Pontiac’s Lucerne Blue was the same color as Buick’s Stratomist Blue. Seeing it on a T/A with stripes and almost no chrome vs. the more traditional Buick I guess... Patrick
I think Chevy called it Placer gold as well in 1971. Nothing has really changed, GMC and Chevy use the same colors on their new trucks but call them different names, as does Buick and Cadillac as well with some colors (I've crossed the codes on some models). I think like any color, when fresh and new it will look good. I remember the first time I saw a well done car in that chevy pea green color (that looks so horrible when old and faded) and it looked great!
There is a difference between "special" and "special-order." These 4 colors are not the equivalent of Buick SCO options so, no, not nit-picking – just trying to set the record straight.
.....yet here you are, continuing to respond. If it was a Buick, everyone would demand accuracy. Since you're the one who brought up Oldsmobile, I can only imagine that you don't feel accurate Olds info is any less deserving.
