More annoying facts -- see No. 11.

Determining The Safest Cities In America
MoneyGeek also ranked the safest large cities in America with populations over 300,000. Virginia Beach was named the safest large city....

15 Safest Large Cities in the US (with a population over 300,000)

    1. Virginia Beach, Virginia
    2. Honolulu, Hawaii
    3. Henderson, Nevada
    4. El Paso, Texas
    5. Mesa, Arizona
    6. San Diego, California
    7. Raleigh, North Carolina
    8. Anaheim, California
    9. San Jose, California
    10. Santa Ana, California
    11. New York City
    12. Austin, Texas
    13. Arlington, Texas
    14. Las Vegas
    15. Riverside, California
Another surprise: New York City—a place that has seen some recent negative headlines in terms of crime—made it onto the list of the safest large cities. “Our analysis shows the NYC crime increasing by 7%, lower than the national average from 2019 to 2020. That is a meaningful increase, but not as much as other cities during that time,” says Milnes.

It’s also possible that New York City might simply have an image problem. “There are a ton of reporters in NYC and at times, that concentration leads to more coverage of the same local problem, which can fuel a greater perception of increasing crime relative to other locations,” says Milnes.

    "Safest" don't mean safe.

Exactly. While many sections of NYC may be nearly free of crime other sections have rampant crime which makes up the total stats. Just stay away from the high crime areas, like anywhere else. :)

Contrary to frequent thinking, there is no gun registration for handguns in the US or in the State of Pennsylvania. Your sister can give you the Ruger to place on any legal gun sale site on the internet. And, $500 is WAY LOW for an asking price. Depending on which model of Blackhawk it is and it's age, your unfired Ruger could sell for $700 to as much as $1000 or more if it's a rare model. PM me and I'll try to help you establish a price. (I'm not a buyer, by the way. Too many guns already).

Hey, quit bashing my city!:) I've lived where I am for 34 years now. I can honestly say that in those 34 years, I have NEVER felt unsafe, and I can remember crime being worse when I first moved here in the late 1980's. NYC is the favorite whipping boy of the media. They sensationalize everything and make things seem way worse than they actually are. Crime in NYC occurs where it has always occurred, in certain neighborhoods, the same neighborhoods.

Ray, there are plenty of areas in NYC that are free of crime, and very safe. Crime is a big problem in any major city in the USA, always has been, and not for nothing, crime in Miami, Orlando, and other cities in Florida is worse than NYC. Just look at the FBI statistics.

:)I think that's what I said, Larry. I was born in NYC and have been back many times. There are still neighborhoods to stay away from.

No, you said, "While certain sections of NYC may be nearly free of crime (if that's possible) many other sections have rampant crime which makes up the total stats. Just stay away from the high crime areas, like anywhere else".

It's the "if that's possible" that I found objectionable.

Thanks for the info. Although there technically is no registration, it is required for gun dealers to report hand gun sales to the firearms division of the Pa. State Police. They keep a permanent data base of the sales. If you own a gun that has not been reported sold, it is considered an illegal weapon and you can be charged.

OK, I've edited the statement to read "While many sections of NYC may be nearly free of crime other sections have rampant crime......."

Max Damage I'm working on it!

I just spent a couple of weeks in Manhattan, dropped my daughter off to college in NJ. NYC is awesome! The transit system is an amazing testament to human achievement. between Ferries, Path (train to NJ), the buses and the Subway, you can quickly get around without a car.

I was there with my wife and daughters. Never felt unsafe, People were friendly and helpful, food and sites were great. I am a city person and obviously remain vigilant. Describing it as chaos is hyperbolic at best.
