For a 70 Gsx power steering gearbox cover what is the correct sticker color, size and code? Is there any difference in the code for a 70 GS as opposed to a GSX?

Anyone have a picture of an original 70 sticker as it came from the factory?

Should be a small yellow oval sticker with a two letter black code on it. In 70 I believe there were two options availble for the GS with power and 1 for non. Look in a assembly manual and find out which option you have and you will see the two letter code. I have the original sticker on my 71 box and can measure it for you. Maybe Duane makes these stickers.

Thanks for the response. I been there and done that and it is not clear to me. It is power steering. I think there may have been the variable ratio option too but I will have to reconfirm. The code for PS in 70 is DH. I am unsure whether the stickers were yellow in 70.

I'm thinking 70 GSX had a unique steering box, not available on anything else Buick (but available on Pontiac). There was a thread recently about this. Seems like that would give it a different code that a non-X 70 GS.

Not sure on the codes but all stickers I remember seeing were yellow. Mine measures about 7/8" long by 1/2" wide hope this helps

Not sure how relevant this is, but here is a picture of one on a 71....reference, I suppose.

This is true. The GSX power steering gearbox carries a different GM part number. The regular GS box was code DH.

So I went to the 71 aasembly manual thinking the GSX came too late in the run and it references a UPC code N41 but I cannot find it on the order sheet. Where is Trom when I need him?

    Smartin thanks for the pic.

    OK,
I guess I need to add a new yellow sticker to the sticker kit I sell.

The next thing you guys are going to ask for are throttle cable stickers, and then probably the sticker for the driverside valve cover.

I can't wait until everyone reads my date code manual, then everyone will want date coded correct stickers.

Have you got one ? It will save me from having to make it. Actually that is no sweat compared to what is the two letter code that goes on it since the GSX box was not the same as the regular GS.

    Codes

Wouldn't the code be the same as the code found on the build sheet/manifest sheet for a GSX? I know it's not on the final body sheet.
I've never seen a manifest for a GSX - only final body sheets. Does anyone have one they can post up here.

Al, yes, I just looked on my Buildsheet, and it matches the sticker "BY" code.

    Al & Adam,
You won't find those codes on the Flint built cars because Buick built them, and used their own style of buildsheets.

You will find the codes on "GMAD" buildsheets, which were used at every plant except Flint.

Thanks for the clarification Duane. So the GMAD issue is dead with Jim's GSX....or anyone's for that matter.

    Adam,
Yes, your right, but I have the correct info from another source.

Now all I need is a nice clean original sticker with the letter codes printed on it (any letters will do), so I can get the sizes and I will be in business. I may as well do all the codes for the 70 cars, and check on the 71-72 codes as well.

What time frame are we talking? I am getting ready for Indyin HJune as you know.

    Well Jim,
My time frame depends on when/if someone either,
finds me a picture of a sticker with the letter codes printed on it,
or can send me an original sticker.

I know the colors for everything, and the size of the sticker, so I guess I could "bluff" one up, but would prefer not to do that.

    Duane,

I guess you are needing the proper original style font?

Would it be safe to assume that the font would be the same throughout
the GM line for a period of years on those vehicles that would have
used the same box - such as a Chevelle, GTO, Cutlass?

Thanks for the explanation on buildsheets for a Flint car.

    Al,
Yes the font would be the same for the entire line, because the same manufacturer supplied everyone. I have all the info needed to do them, except an example of the lettering.

PS. If you want to know which decals I sell, you can check my website, thanks.
