I am looking into purchasing a digital camera. There seem to be a million of them on the market. I know alot of you have one. What do you have, happy with it? I do not want to spend a mint. Am thinking in the 3 to 4 hundred dollar range. Can I get a good one for that price? I don't know much about electronics am looking for something simple but with good pictures. Thank you John
Fuji S5000....about $300 online, $400 at Best Buy.... Best feature is the 10x optical zoom....great for wildlife, or race track shots from the stands. 3.2 mp resolution, I use 2 mp resolution for most of my shots, as it allows me to crop the pic. Has usefull sequential-picture modes, especially the 'last 5' feature...You take a sequence, release the shutter, and it captures the LAST 5 frames!. cool. Overall clarity of pics is decent, not outstanding...there are better cameras out there. I bought this one for the unique features, and am very happy with it!
Walt has a great camera there! I have the Fuji S7000 and it is unbelieveable....but costs about $2-300 more than the 5000. It is 6 megapixels and makes zooming an focusing on small parts very simple. Here is a threade where I took pictures of a couple qjets and some MAJOR close-ups of the small holes in the air horn.. http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=37607&highlight=qjet
I got a Fuji 2650 2 MP camera from BJ's for $160 and I love it. Pics are sharp and it is easy to use. A Hewlett Packard I got from Circuit City was a POS so I returned it. The batteries kept falling out.:af:
The Sony Cybershots are awesome. I have the DSC-F707 which is an older v. with 5 megapixels and 10x zoom. They run pretty close to 450 or so but is a phenomenal camera.
Just bought a Fuji Finepix A210 yesterday. 3.2 megapixel. $179.00 So far in playing around with it I'm quite happy. Was going to get a Canon Sureshot (?) for $199.00. Similar camera, but couldn't find one in stock anywhere. Geez, I saw on Best Buy's web site an 11 Mega pixel camera for $7,999.00. A little more than I want to spend.
Thank you for the help. I am new to this, and I trust ya'll more than a salesman trying to make a sale. I found this one . I like the price and 5 megapixal. Any ideas on it? How do I know if it has zoom. John
3x optical zoom is fairly decent...also has 3x digital soom, which is nothing more than the camera cutting the picture down into a smaller crop....so you really aren't zooming in. Looks like a pretty good deal!
I think what Adam was trying to say is that optical zoom is better. Digital zoom isn't as good. That's the other reason why I returned my Hewlett Packard camera, it was digital zoom.:bglasses:
Digital Cameras Joe - what model was your HP pos ? - My HP935 has 3 x optical, and 7 x digital for a total of 21 x total zoom, and it takes great photos, I'm very happy with it - there are so many to choose from, and they just keep getting better ! :bglasses: :TU:
I can't remember, but it was a 3.1 MP and it cost around $180. I do use the HP software that came with our HP printer. It's much easier to use than the Fuji software, but I'm kinda slow with this stuff.:bglasses:
Yeah....for some reason my syntax wasn't working correctly when I was typing that post:laugh:
I recently bought a Canon A80 and love it. Its 4MP, has a flip out LCD, and lots of manual features that not all the cameras offer, such as being able to set the exposure to up to 15 seconds, great for night shots. It also got really good reviews from a few different sources. Should be about $350-$370 on newegg.com
The real decision is do you want a small slip in your pocket camera or dont mind one thats a bit (or more than a bit) bigger being closer in size to a SLR 35 mm camera. With the small slip in the pocket types, you are limited to optical zooms of 3x while with larger cameras you can get 5x, 7x, or up to ~10x optical. Optical zoom is the cameras' lens's capability to magnify your subject using the optics in the lens while digital zoom is the same as enlarging it on your computer - you loose resolution as you start enlarging. Another big factor to consider is what type of battery and memory card the camera uses. Some camera's have their own specific type of battery and that is all you can use while others use standard AA-Nickel metal hydride batteries (or alkaline AA's if your in a pinch). Memory card types are almost as vast as camera types and costs vary per Megabyte between the different types. As far as megapixels goe, If your not planning to blow anything up past 8x10" a 3.2 MP is fine.....if you want to go bigger you need to have more MP and shoot with the camera in that setting. I have a picture in front of me taken with my 5 MP camera that is printed on 11x14" and looks perfectly clear and detailed. If your main objective is just to be able to grab photo's for viewing on your computer or posting to the web, a 2-3mp camera is fine
ok.. my advice.. www.stevesdigicams.com the guy convinced me to buy my Casio Exilim 3.1 megapixel camera.. adam seen it at milan for the centennial and he's seen the pics it took.. if you're looking for a small pocket type camera.. this is the one to get... they now have a 4 megapixel version out.. $400.. not a bad price for its size it takes great pictures.. 3x optical zoom... i bought a 256mb SD card for it for $70 holds 130 pictures before i gotta take them off... http://buick.unlogikal.net/pics/centennial/ no webpage for it all yet, but you can browse the pictures.. they've been resized though... 800x600 for space reasons... BTW, if ANYONE finds a picture in there that they like and would like the fullsize picture, simply PM me and i'll hook ya up no problem
Thanks again for the input. Alan, that clarafied alot for me thanks. I will have to keep comparing. This will be my first camera, so I don't want to get talked into something I have no idea about by some Circuit City salesman. The camera I currently have, I have to stick my head under a sheet and when I take the picture a cloud of smoke comes up. So I need to update. John
