And rubbing compound will turn your rag red too with this old lacquer paint.

Chris, I've been hoarding a few spray cans of the old Duplicolor 1608 Red that was a very good match to Buick red but discontinued a couple of years ago. I don't know how the 1608 looks against the new 1653, but you're welcome to a can... just have to figure out how to get it to you with the border closed!

Meet each other at the border with specific locations and fly it over with a drone, in and out before anyone notices:D:p:)

dan engine1.jpg Thanks Doug, I appreciate the offer! I think my friend is looking to get some he can paint with his gun as opposed to in a can, but I will let you know if I need a can of 1608!

Many years ago he did the valve covers and air cleaner on this one to match the car and it has held up well.

I just applied it with one of those foam brushes so I could squish it into hard to get spots, did great.

Thanks for the help guys. I haven't found out yet which paint he used, but he did let me know it is ready. I also had him paint a lid for one of my other air cleaners. thumbnail_imagejpeg_1.jpg

It was never painted originally....it is red plastic. Rather than paint I like to use plastic polish or even fiberglass color restorer.

This is what i thought after seeing an original with one small scratch. The scratch was red inside, so it's true they were plastic molded in red? Any advise on stripping paint and polishing?
    Thanks

I’m interested in that also, stripping and polishing. Or painting.

I ended up figuring this out. Mine was not red plastic. The second coat of paint was removed with spray paint remover in small sections. Used a small (new) wire brush for the grooves on top. Sanded original paint, cleaned primed and painted with Eastwood Buick red, same as engine.

Ordered some of this companies AMC blue for my Jeep. They also have a Buick Red as well plus an assortment of others. I have read good things and thought I would give them a try.
