Can somebody tell me the correct finish for door strikers? I've seen some painted, some cad plated and others zinc plated.

Is there a good source for these?

    Thanks,

All I can say at this point is try to stay away from the Motormite ones in the Help! section at the parts stores. They tend to break when it gets below freezing.

All the ones I have seen on FL elderly-owned cars....originals....all were painted. You should have no problem finding them here.
I bet Bruno has a box of them.

Thanks for your help. I found some at CARS for $4 each. I ordered a couple of them. I'll let you know how they come out.

Are these the ones that mount on the door jam up high and held in with 2 screws?

if so i believe mine are brass.

Unless they have changed the repros those may be incorrect. I know a 70 model has the torx head wheres the repros are an incorect hex head. I do not recall for a 71 but they may be torx also from the factory. Maybe a 71 owner can address this. Unfortunately, many advertisers say there repros are correct when they are not. At some point in the early 70s they did go to a hex head.

Yes torx head is correct for 71 and they were painted but the paint will come off with first close of the door but thats they way they were done. Check out the www.amkproducts.com catalog page 126. They show them and they may be correct. They cost $12 each so must be good quality I guess.

Dave...wishful thinking UNFORTUNATELY!!!!.....I've been asking them for over two years now about those in the AMK catalog and they still don't seem to be able to get them done. Maybe someone else can call and ask them about these as they were getting tired of me asking:Dou:

When looking for used ones make sure and compare the two sides.....many times the P side striker has less wear and tear on it due to less useage.

Hm, wonder why they put them in there? Looks like originals for me or off to the Junk yard again.

Not to hijack the thread, but are the door latch mechanisms supposed to be painted as well from the factory?

Well--it would be worth giving them a call again to see if anything has changed. It's been a few months since I asked them about the strikers.

    Thanks

If the strikers are supposed to be painted, mine are correct. I guess I'll keep them that way. They do have the torx head on them.

    Thanks for all the input.

I recieved the strikers about three weeks ago. The part number is DS645. With shipping, they cost me $18.10. The shipping was more than the strikers themselves.
