I have a 1970 le sabre. Its go tthe 350 in it.. For those of you familiar with this engine, would this be considered a chevy small block? Because I want to get oen of those engine dress up kits, but its designed for a chevy small block. Will these parts fit my engine?
NO! Buick 350's are specific to Buicks... Check out some other vendors for Buick engine parts... www.taperformance.com www.postonbuick.com :beer :beer
im not really lookin for the mechanical parts... just lookin for ome chrome to put under my hood. (valve covers, air filter housing, etc.) where can I get these?
Lets be sure thats a Buick engine first. Remember, that is a Canadian car and I don't know if Buick used the Chevy engine and frames. Pontiac sure did! Steve, if the distributor is in the front, thats a Buick alright.
If you have other transportation.... You could send your parts out to get chrome plated. There are a few listed in the vendor section.:TU:
Yes, the distributer cap is in the front. I was at work today showing off my car to the other employees, and the one guy said that he knows his way around chevy small block engines, and he has never seen the cap up front.
Compare the bore and stroke between the Chev and the Buick. Perhaps a few bolts, a carb, etc. are the same but not much. Totally different design which just happens to end up with the same approx. displacement. http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~don_s/enginespecs.htm#buick
Thats a Buick 350 for sure! 1970 is the first year for the better oiling system. However, I recommend you get an oil gauge before you invest in chrome.
The oil pump is a common failure on that engine so it makes alot of sense to keep an eye on it. After all, it is 33 years old. Its just a suggestion. I hope you post bigger pictures soon!
You've come to the absolute best place for info on your Buick 350, hang around the "Smallblock" forum here and you'll learn a lot of really good stuff. Ask questions, don't be shy, lots of really helpful types here who are all on your side. Best thing you can do is to stay far, Far, FAR away from anybody who has never seen a distributor up front. Buick engines are WAY DIFFERENT (read BETTER) than Chevies. Better engineering, better materials, longer lasting, etc, etc. That being said, the oiling isn't a Buick strong suit, although adequate (ie, your 30-year-old engine). A TA oil pump kit and adjustable pressure regulator should set you right, however. Best $$ you'll ever spend on a Buick. Then you'll need headers, an intake....... yeah, yeah,.... I'd shop around for a Chassis Manual, they're invaluable. You can do pretty much anything yourself, save $$$ in the process, and I can't tell you how much FUN it is to suck unsuspecting little cars into your air filter!!! James
Nice LeSabre, by the way!!! :TU: Of course, the Green cars are best. Which carb does it have, 2bbl or 4bbl? Single or dual exhaust? James
Thanks, I like your sabre too. Do you have a bigger pic of it? Of course, its is a four barrel carb, dual exhaust. Nothin but.
Hey Guys.Nice to see another Canuck into Buicks!! Stick with this site Steve and you will learn a lot more than any of your freinds can teach you about Buicks!! Dan,Canadian Pontiacs(LeMans/Full size) did come with Pontiac(Blue)engines and SBC(Orange) never saw Buick/Olds with a Chevy V8 engine from factory.Later,Tony.
Well, I bought a new chrome air filter kit. I spent all night looking for the wrong thing at first. i thought that you use your existng filter, and just find a kit that will fit it. so i measured my filter, and it was like 11 and 3/4 inches diamter. So I Spent all night looking for a 12 incher. finally I went to Part Source, and they set me right. I havent installed it yet though. My car is in my backyard, and I was going to bring it up into the garage, an dI just ended up diigin ruts in my yard, and gettin in stuck. So its a project for another date. The guy also told me that I should have no problem fitting their valve covers on.
While Canadian Pontiacs used many Chevy parts (not only engines) the Buicks weren't very different from their US cousins. The interior trim was different on some models but the rest was the same. Full size Buicks weren't made in Canada after 1966 and even when they were, they had Buick engines... (before 1975) Somebody once told me that one of his friends bought a Canadian built 65 LeSabre with a factory installed Chevy 409 but I didn't believe him...
My Le Sabre is a southern car. I got all of the car history with it, and it shows that it was in Tennese for 20 years. Probably the reason why its in such great shape.. no salt on the roads down there.
