At the Martin races the "tire rule" will be strictly enforced if your running Factory Stock.
*We will be using the "penny rule".
*If at anytime during the race the tire is illegal you will have to switch it out. (swap front to rear, put different tires on, or whatever)
*If your tire is illegal and your heading into an elimination round you will automatically be disqualified. It will not be up to the other racer or even the guy's running the event. Your out!
    * A tire will be found illegal if even one thread does not pass the penny test. Even if the tire only fails the penny test in one spot on the tire it is illegal.
*Penny Test: simply stick a penny upside down in the thread (not on top of the wear bars), using only the weight of the penny (i.e. you cannot push down on the penny to change the measurement) and Lincoln's head should remain covered.

Sooo for those of us that actually drive our cars and can only afford a set of tires Repro tires every 4-5 years ( sometimes more ) .
We are supposed to have a spare set Mounted up on a spare set of wheels ready to swap out at a moments notice , and check our tires after every burnout. And no more finishing off a set that is getting close to the end of life (known as the donny brass smoke show ), due to fear of getting disqualified AFTER My burnout ....

I thought you guys where checking tires . Marking them, and they couldn't come off during the event..

Is this Due to just a Few Dickheads that can't help themselves buy putting on Ringer tires tires during a Factory stock or pure Stock event ???
Just to see what it Could Do ..
just to be clear ; definition of ringer tires ( shaved or balded- soaked- sidewalls broke down by driving around with 1000lbs in the trunk or on another vehicle with low air - slicks with letters spray painted on them-- used to get additional traction )

Well Rhondas BFGs will probably fail by the end of the event, My 70 has already had em swapped frt. to back ( 6 years old ) was wanting one last race out of them, the Blue 69 lost 1 tire when the alignment shop left the control arm loose and the shims fell out and it magically embedded in the rear tire! So with a slow year with the store due to road construction and my 2 knee surgery bills. Count us 3 out this year. 2 new sets of tires are not in the cards.
See you next year , if the event hasn't been run into the ground by a few more egomaniacs.

LoL, this is great... What a fricken mess! All these guy's complaining about tires, the rules are in writing but not really enforced. Were thinking we need to get a grip in this situation before we lose some of the main players. We take a step we figured would be welcomed and we get hammered the very first post.

Maybe Terry and I are reading the the situation wrong? We certainly do not want to lose any racers. Let me ask this question here, is everybody ok with just checking fir the tires at the beginning of the race, marking them and just letting it rip from there. If they wear down during the race they are still legal. We have Tim's answer i think and personally i'm ok with it.

Slightly off topic... I noticed that I never had my wheels balanced when I restored my Chevelle, so I took the front ones off to take to Discount tire to have balanced. The guy at Discount Tire checked the date code (1997) and told me that he couldn't touch them due to their age. I took them elsewhere to get balanced.

I'm wondering if my traction problems at Stanton were due to 15 year old Firestone's ?. Certainly not because of too much horsepower....

Dave, not meaning to ruffle your feathers right now- but . My frustration lies with The New Mid year installed rules that happen Never seem to affect the ones that they are made for. Only everyone else. I do want rules enforced - I do.. But for all ! The folks that have been the problems in the past just shrug it off as screw you. When there the ones that make the problem to begin with.

I have a shelf full of parts that where legal, then weren't. Yet as Terry just told me he still saw several cars running now deemed illegal parts at PureStocks ,that shouldn't. I have ALLWAYS said enforce the rules .. No Matter who it hurts.. I have Never asked for a veriance , like Several others. NEVER ! You guys have taken Leaps and Bounds to enforce the rules over Dan and Bob. I see that and appreciate it.
I simply cannot afford to buy 2 new sets of tires with only 2 weeks before the race. Kinda short notice.. The credit cards are FULL.

If i show up please come look at my tires. SEE IF THERE ringers. I will let all the air out so you can see the side walls flex. They won't ! I don't and won't run unsafe tires on mine or my wifes cars. All I was saying is theres enough for one more race. And they Will die at this event !:3gears:
If I'm a casualty off the new rules I understand, just frustrated on the short notice.

    God Bless and good Luck

    Dave,

I am in 100% agreement with you on the tire rule, and I also agree it's because of some guys putting ringer tires on their cars.

I also think the late notice is tough, because I was joking with Terry after the Smoke Show in September that I would need a tire rule waiver because I am at the wear bars. As the car sits, it can't run in 2 weeks at Martin.

The rules are the rules, but ignoring this one for a couple of years and then drawing the line in the sand less than 2 weeks before the last event of the year makes it tough.

If this rule will be enforced, I will abide by it.

Right on with the top 10. I think once the tire is gone, the drivers needs to pull a john force/dale the snail burnout

    I had to chuckle too.

Personally I think you should go with your first statement.

Same rules should apply for everyone.

I have to ask, because I see a possible "gray area".

When you say "head should remain covered", do you mean his whole head(neck up), or just the very top of his head(where one would go bald)?

I would say that a good number to work with would be 2/32" in at least the three center bars.

Any tire shop worth its weight in salt should have a depth gauge....in fact I think they even have them at Auto Zone.

Personally, I think that it is great to have a tire rule, but I think the time to put into effect is for the first race for next year.:Smarty:

I guess, I just glanced over your post the first time I read it Tim, looking back it`s really insulting. Were gonna keep the tire rule just for the top 10 cars, but I have to ask.. Why wouldn't `t Tim Clary just rotate his tires from front to rear instead of buying all new rims and tires? to add drama to the post?

*Nobody in the FAST class or Factory Stock class has ever ran "slicks" with the letters spray painted on them in a event, ever.. Are you talking about the set I made up for the *Hemi vs Buick shoot-out* with my Challenger? (10+ years ago) LoL. reaching.... somebody here please disagree with me.:Dou:

*Mr Clary the F/S cars that have ran bald tires, ran them in event`s where it was *legal* to do so. Most of the FAST cars run worn tires or just flat out have more power to work with, at some events we simply do NOT have enough F/S cars to make up a class, so we mix them together. Letting the F/S cars run bald tires tightens the field and makes for better racing. Lots of times F/S cars are paired with FAST cars because we have very few options. Why are you so outraged over this? were you there? Some of us were there and we had a great time.

*At the Martin races we will always have the new tire rule in place.

*Soaking tires? LoL.. You have so much to learn (does nothing, ask anybody)

*Breaking down the side walls, I did it and as far as I know, nobody else has? Those tires I have screwed to the rims, they are very used and abused and have never been bolted any F/S car, period.. If somebody attempts to break down the side walls of a F/S car, it will be noticeable. Even to the guy`s who really don`t know what to look for.

*I`m so sick right now I can barely make it around the house, sat here for 1/2 hour debating if responding to some BS name calling post was even worth it. It certainly is not.

Dave the tires where already swapped front to back, thats why .. no dramma there. And I BELIEVE it does say that in my first post.. Frts are worse than the rears right now .They have been on for 6 years. I was only wanting to get one more race out of the set. They will pass right now- probably not by the END of the event.
I thought this was new rules being put in place 2 weeks before a race. At least the inspecting tires through out the event and During Matchups. Before you where inspecting them and marking them. And you were supposed to have the same on during the event.

Yes I was mentioning the tires (slicks) from Quaker. I was using it as an example - Others might be smart enough to try it. Take that as a compliment- you were a pioneer.
As for soaking- During your LONG Hiatus from Pure Stock.. It was happining quit a bit, so much that letters would be discolored. Rob Clary was running around with a durometer during the event and keeping track of people tire #s .
Breaking down side walls- Are you saying you think your the only one doing it ?? - Or do you think that whole post was aimed at you??
I was pointing out all the things people do and Have done - as to include those instances so they Wouldn't do it . Wrong class for this stuff.

That wasn't a personal attack on you, It was a person frustrated by the Everchanging rules -as Joel Nystrom has said in the PAST. And Last minute enforcements and additions. And the other part - the cost of replacing tires on 2 cars short notice - Which doesn't affect you at all.
You posted the rules and it is your race , thus I commented to your post - TO the PERSON in charge of that race.
AT No time was i trying to PICK on you ,During a period of bad time for You.

As for name calling , Not unless you are grouping yourself into the small group of people that have tried ruining the PureStocks..When I talked to Terry that day , he knew Exactly what I was meaning. People Putting on Ringer tires for their Shootouts. Giving and unfair advantage . And an extra 1/10 or 2 off their 60ft.
AND- It must of, you commented.LOL:rolleyes:

If anyone is interested, I have a set of G70-14 Goodyear Polyglas for sale. They are thin white stripe on one side, blackwall on the other. 4 of the tires have less than 100 street miles on them. The spare tire has never been on the ground. These tires list at $250 per tire on Kelsey site right now. I am asking $750 for the set of 5 tires. That's a savings of $100 per tire! Also I can bring the tires to Martin US-131 if that helps. Let me know if anyone is interested. Thanks!
