This is a rotating assembly that was owned and built by Norm Dihle and myself. The rotating assembly has approximately 10,000 street miles on it and numerous 1/4 passes. I have built a more street friendly engine for the new owner of Norms old car so he doesn't need these parts. The Good, the rods are Aluminum Manley 6.8", 2.1 rod journal, the rods were treated by 300 Below (will dig out receipt and scan it). They need to be resized, out approx 0.0015", stock balancer, was new at time of assembly (2003), JW Flywheel, Diamond Domed Pistons/pins. This pistons will give you a very high compression ratio (not for pump gas). The Bad, stock crank that was stroked to 4.147", the crank is shows signs of cracking at the rod pins, it will need to be replaced but is included for reference for the next crank grinder. $500 or reasonable offer, prefer to deliver to the GS Nats.
Here's the receipt for the cyrogenic treatment of the alumiinum rods. Will consider to separate the assy.
1st up, Questions, PM sent Will these pistons work with stock rods & crank stroke, and what kind of comp. could I see with zero deck and 68cc heads and .040 gasket..o No: thanks jerrold,,
Jerrold, the pin height of these pistons is 1.67 vs. I think you have sealed powers which are 1.985 so you'll have roughly a 0.030" deck and this piston does have a dome. I did a quick calculation and my estimate is that you would have approximately 12:1 if not higher (I can do the actual math if you want). Also, you would need to bush the stock rod to accept these pistons. Does that help? If you have a zero deck now, then using the aluminm rods would put the piston above the deck so you'd need a different block.
Rob,.. Im just thinking about the next motor,..all my spare blocks are stock deck height right now....so I could use a 6.8 steel rod and stroke it for a new 470 motor...and then adjust the quench that way.. Im thinking about 11.5 - 12.0 -1...comp. with Alum. heads.. Was this a 470 assembly to begin with..
ok...that was my next guess.. I'll pass for now...too many " irons in the fire " with my sons buick... thanks anyway.. jerrold,,
Forgive my incompetence but these will work on a stock block providing it doesnt have a 0 deck? Does TA sell the crank that one would need to replace? I am interested but just a bit fuzzy on how all that works...I just buy the parts and drive the car What if I went with an aluminum block? Justin
Yes, this combo will work with a stock block or an aftermarket block IF it uses a stock crank. Not sure if TA sells a replacement crank. A local grinder modified this one. FCOOFRAZ3 is in front of you.
Considering making an offer but photos of pistons cause me concern about current quality and if they are reusable. Please advise
