upper left appears to be the part number 1235413 and lower right is the frame code BW. Both of these are for the 446 series car. Maybe 11-19 is the date?
Your explanation would fit. It is a 70 Stage built in December. What about the "C-2" between the 11-19 and BW? Thanks Harvey
On the top view, the 0 is 70, the H is flint and the rest is your last six of the vin if you didn't know that already. You're gonna be busy.... later Tim
I think C2 is the plant and shift designation? As Buick Apostle Duane if he knows which he probably does!
BW code If I remember correctly, the BW (which is also very clear on my frame) may be something to do with the Four-speed. I remember looking it up in my assembly manual and finding it. They however show it being located above the rear axle, but I found mine near the rear bumper brackets. John
Guys, Both the part number 1235413 and code BW designate this as a 1970 GS 455/Stage 1 coupe frame. If it was for a small block both the number and code letters would be different. The number 11-19 is definately the date the frame was built, which would be November 19 1969, for a 70 car. As for the "C-2", George is probably right about it being a plant and shift designation, but I have no proof of that. I may have something listed in my factory date code books, but would need to check. Otherwise the other info gives you everything you need to know to verify it. John, What the assembly manual references is the paper sticker that was glued to the frame, not where the numbers are stamped. If you look at page 2-3.1 it shows the sticker as being upside down on the frame. Once I asked a Flint assembly line worker about this and he said the frames were delivered to the assembly plants on railroad cars and were stacked upside down. That's why the stickers are upside down, so the guys could read them upon delivery. How's that for a piece of trivia. Duane PS. You guys better remember this, there may be a quiz.
Oh that's it. Another damn quiz! ou: Thanks Duane, I thought my frame was stamped in the wrong place. John
John, I'm just glad you are around today to talk cars. Duane PS. I checked my factory date code books, and they didn't list anything for car frames. I guess GM didn't consider them a normal replacement part.
I got curious... You got me curious so I snapped a photo of mine. I never did find the VIN stamped on the top of my frame though. Maybe my car was too lightly stamped or too rusty....or I didn't looki in the right place. I am sure it is impossible to find now. Not sure if I could find it with the body on the frame. This was the best shot I got.....
Harvey...after reading this, I ran out to the garage to see if i can read the numbers on my 70. Guess what! my frame reads 11-19 C2 BW. I guess our frames were made the same day?? But the body date code says 03A. From the Wayne Roberts paperwork, my car was invoiced on March 12th. I also see the 1235413. Next to the number is an "S" inside a circle and the number 12 next to it
Interesting. Mine is a 12 build date code (no week stamped) and invoiced Jan. 21/1970. I guess if the frames arrived at the plant by train they would probably bring in several months supply at a time. (?) If your build date is 03A, what are the casting dates on your block and intake? Just curious, because mine are all Dec. 2, 3 and 4 for a December build. Cheers Harvey
The engine casting is a C-8 (March 8th). The trans decodes to March 3rd (P0C03B). Offhand, I dont remember without looking what the intake says. But everything Ive seen so far falls right around the first week of March
Really....... 1235413 is in my parts book Duane as a 69 and 70 frame assembly, though the 69 is probably a sup.... :Brow:
Harv... That's cool, Marco's stage 1 was also sold to the SAME dealer, about a mile from where I was raised. :TU: :3gears:
