Frame Numbers Yeap - I have the same part number with the circled S then the number 10 under that is 9 19 S BW, I can't see a serial on the frame, and it's been blasted to bare metal. I looked over the entire frame and can barely see the numbers on the rear left. For the serial number - I'm looking on the left side, about in the middle, on the top, and I can't see anything. I'm guessing they would stick out because they look in that picture to be at least 1/2'' Am I looking in the right place?
Jason, To clarify this completely the first few 1970 GS Big Block coupe frames had a part number of 3960795, or 3960796 (I can't read the numbers too well) with the code letters CC. Then this part number and letter code group was changed to a part number of 1235413 with the code letters BW. This combo continued till the end of the production year. There is no way to tell if it was a 455 or Stage 1 from the frame numbers. All they tell is that it was a (1970 ONLY) big block and not a small block A-body 2-door coupe frame. Duane
Just to add to the trivia here not only were the various the frames assigned part numbers but you could buy them over the counter just like any other part. The 69-70 frame that you reference listed for a wopping $169.60 in 1971.
Pictures of frame re-assembled Hi Everyone I thought I would show off my handi-work with my frame. I just finished re-assembling this afternoon. New poly bushings front and rear, new ball joints and new springs.
Rear suspension Disregard the rusty old rear end. It's only there for "pushing around" reasons as are the front aluminum drums.
Jim, Yes that is green grass. And I'm not proud to admit that just before I took these pictures I mowed the lawn! This is about a month earlier than usual. Now I've got an extra month of mowing to look forward to! Harvey
Looking good. You do need to pop that old crusty tranny line clip off and get a new one....I have a couple here or could scrounge up the gm part number for you. later Tim
Hi Tim Thanks! I'll get on that but there is no rush because the next step is doing the metal work on the body. Maybe in a year or so.... Harvey
The circled "S" designates the frame's manufacturer. If my brain cells are working right, it's A.O. Smith in this case.
