needing some ideas for getting my fuel system. i have the holley blue pump will be running push lok hose not going to be running a return at the moment also have the regulator that comes with the pump. 1 in 2 out. where is the best places to mount the pump and regulator. will have a 8 gal fuel cell in a week or so. 8 an is what im going to run. pictures welcome! also what method are you guys using to block the pass compartment while retaining the back seat. also how do you guys run your vents? would love pics. thanks guys. im getting closer to passing tech.
Generally electric pumps are pushers. That means mount it as close to the fuel cell as possible. Basically if the cell is under the car like a stock tank than mount the pump on the frame rail just in front of the rear-end. If the cell is in the trunk than mount it to the fuel cell mounting bracket.
what do you mean the fuel cell mounting bracket?? like in the trunk?? i didn't know you could mount it in the trunk. wouldn't it build up heat in a closed space?
Many fuel cells wount fit under a car, especially a lowered race car. Many people make a cage of square tubing that gets welded into the trunk of the car, then fuel cell then gets mounted into the cage. Usually there's a small cutout where the sump drops down through the floor of the trunk to allow the lines and wiring to have a straight shot without worrying about grommets and crap. Here's an example. Notice the return line running to the top. The pump is most likely on the frame rail
Tyler had the holley blue mounted under the car, on the back side of the rear hump, just in front of the stock tank location. Bolts came through trunk area. It is pulled out now, so I can't take pictures. Regulator was mounted on the passenger fender well. To pass tech, you have to have the regulator away from the firewall, so don't mount it there.
I borrowed a friends sumped tank for now and used a Holley pump as well. I used a piece of angle aluminum that bolted between the horizontal hole on the bottom of bumper and drilled a small hole in the back of the frame. It's mounted as high up as I could get it without the pump hitting the bottom of the trunk. Takes from that stock look, but I have no issues with fuel pressure.
Lonnie, no offense to Craig, but do anything you can to keep the majority of the hardware above the bottom of the rear bumper. Unfortunately the bumper won't help much in case of a strong rear impact as it is, but in leaving all that plumbing exposed you can pretty much guarantee a severe fuel spill on a street driven car. That's what bugs me about sumps. I had an Acura Integra slide under my firebird almost to the rear diff (L.A. Freeway), completely supporting the rear end of my car by the gas tank sitting on the hood of the car. A sump would of been bad news in that case. I drove the car home and only had to straighten and paint the valence panel under the bumper and replace some exhaust parts.
Hey Devon, I agree with you 100%. The only reason I went this route on mine is that my tags are expired and I don't intend on driving it on the street for a while and I was trying a quick fix to a fuel delivery problem. When that time comes, all of the stuff on it currently will be swapped out back to a larger in tank pick up and a better mechanical pump.
so can i mount it right by the curve for the rear end hump then route the fuel line outside the frame? i will mount my regulater where the inner fender was kinda like tylers black car. is there a fitting for the qjet for 8an ?
ok. today i got my fuel pump and regulator mounted. also took my back seat out and got a big sheet of alumimum to cover the top and my seat back. does my sheet have to have some kind of seal between it? has anyone ever mounted buckets in the back and had a center console run back or is that imposible with a roll cage.
With a real roll cage there's no way to use the rear seats in a coupe. The crossbar will block access.
The roll cage will have a crossbar that runs across the width of the cage. That's the bar that the safety harness connects to. On some cages you can have a bolt in bar to allow access to the rear seats, but not all sanctioning bodies will allow those as the cage then becomes only as strong as those bolts.
well that sucks. guess once my car needs a cage i need to find a vert buick for a cruiser.. anyone have any advice for 8an fitting for qjet?
Lonnie, you need to sharpen up your internet search skills. This is from Greg Gessler's site: http://quadrajetparts.com/inlet-fittings-adapter-inlet-fitting-p-367.html Get familiar with www.gesslerheadporting.com and www.quadrajetparts.com, both are Greg. If 10 second runs on a stock appearing car on bias ply tires isn't enough, I don't know what is. Devon
thanks thats what i needed. sorry my computer is messed up so for the past month im using a phone. it sucks
If you're going to build a safe system, you need to get your poop in a group, if you know what I'm saying. Devon
Lonnie, You won't need a roll cage unless you go faster than 11.50 in a hardtop. I don't think you will need anything more than -6AN from the regulator to the carburetor.
