I'd like to see that same chart posted not in US Dollars but in what those countries are paying the Saudis in whatever the Saudi monetary unit is. Sure, gas in China is US$1.50/gal. But if the average worker makes only US$10/day, that's not cheap. The chart is as much a measure of currency valuations as it is gas prices. What I want to know is if the Chinese are paying the Saudis (and Iranians, and Venezuelans, and Canadians) as much as we are. If not, why?

I hope to be at Martin and Stanton as a spectator as usual. But I'm blessed to be 15 minutes from Martin and 60 minutes from Stanton. I have no plans at this date to travel out of state for a race -- but I sure am glad most of you guys are willing to! :TU:

Commies must have negotiated a better deal. I'll bet they don't have to pay for the CEOs retirement plan and all the other happy h/s either. :blast:

    Well,
Dave, Greg and I were afraid of the high gas prices would hurt Martin attendance. With losing both of our main sponsor from last year and With the cost of Martin track rental @ a very high price, if we don't get enough cars we will be forced to make up the difference out of our own check books, We hope we can keep the Martin spring race going for years for all of us.

and just like crude, currencies are traded also, thus affecting exchange rates. but you do make a good point.

so when's the car getting the headers yanked for manifolds? :Do No: if I didn't say it, you know Rusty or Dave would have.

Just remember the drag racing sucks in China.

On the other hand a great many of us are being priced out of things we have done for decades. I used to go racing every weekend, skiing in Colorado etc. Can not afford that anymore. This is without loosing my job and still getting small raises. So many are going backward in absolute income as well as the huge increase in cost of living.

I love it that the cost of living index does not include fuel and food.

Why is track rental going up so fast? The Royal Pontiac Club was priced out of Milan after 15 years. They doubled the track rental. We are doing 3 races in Lapeer this year.

I drove past Martin a couple times this week. They've got a crane erecting more stands on the west side of the track. I guess they want the FAST crew to pay their fair share of the improvements. :Do No:

I would hope the IHRA is helping pay for that expansion. We go to the IHRA Northern Nationals every year in August. On the Saturday of the weekend of the event, they pack in over 50,000 spectators. Last year, they had fans parking all the way back to the main entrance gate. We already have our tickets for this year, I can't wait to see what next year's prices will be at. :dollar: :dollar:

Had thought about going to Martin this year. Alot of races in fact. But the way I had to "store" the Runner this winter didn't do it any good. I'm now looking at taking the car all the way to the metal and starting over. My car looks like its' got the chicken pox. Racing it this season is out. May have to bring the "little stinker" out to play ifn' I'm gonna race.

I doubt the IHRA helps pay for improvements. The last Northern Nationals I went to was the first year it was at Martin. That was the year a monsoon blew through Saturday evening. I was able to seek shelter in a friend's motor home. The local weather radar (which we had on TV) showed this intense storm with rotation -- centered dead on Martin. It didn't move for the better part of an hour. Weirdest thing I've ever seen; it was like God was really P.O.ed at someone at the track. Lightning was striking everywhere and hit one of the motor homes, pretty much blowing it up. A tornado touched down nearby. The track was under a foot of water. All of the "grass" at the track turned into mud. The soil there is really silty -- probably an ancient lake bed. My car was stuck; I had to wait for it to dry out the next day to dig it out.

The IHRA was royally pissed at the track's new owners. Not only were their improvements a year behind schedule, they failed in their attempt to seed grass. The IHRA told them in no uncertain terms, "There will be turf here next year, or we won't be back." For that I'm thankful. It really is a first-class facility today, not the dust bowl it used to be.

    (Sorry for the hi-jack.)

No critters thankfully. I had to keep it in the trailer under a good quailty cover and the trailer leaked. Basically the paint was smothered and lifted in several places like chicken pox "bumps". All paint has to come off and start from bare metal.

Would bring it if it didn't need completely gone through and it really needs painted again as well. I may still show and be a general PITA to everyone. Who's looking for a cook? Just killed a couple fatted hogs and stuffed fresh beef into the freezer:TU:

I think it won't affect most Canadians too much. While the price of fuel has increased, our dollar is worth about 30% more than last year, so it will be about the same. See ya at the track!
