    Berta,

I assume since there are more 15 x 7 Buick Rallye wheels in the 5 x 4 3/4 bolt pattern?

I have quite a few of these, thought they were all the same. (Just like all the Buick people think all Olds are the same, etc. etc.)

    What's unbique about the WG?

Realize this is a Buick question, this is a Buick site, and probably a better place to ask this, but I only look at "Other Guys". Other ones are dangerous to us heathens. Good men have gone in there and not come out!:bglasses:

Dave the "WG" 15x7 rally wheels have about an extra 1/2" of offset towards the outside, thus pushing the wheels out further(wide track Buick??)

Pretty obvious if you have a standard 15x7 wheel next to a "WG",and another way to check, is I *think* you can set a quarter on the lip of the outer rim where it meets the center of the rim, where a standard wheel will probably only support a dime on the same lip.
    Sorry, I don't have a picture for a comparison.
"WG" wheels were a 1970 only wheel that came on GSX's, and any GS that was ordered with the 15x7 chrome rally wheels.

Tom: Thanks. I'll check all of them. I just sold a pair of them with my drag radials to a friend. Hope they weren't the good ones.

Interesting...Do you happen to know who manufactured those wheels for Buick? Motor Wheel Corp. was the supplier of almost all Oldsmobile wheels back then (they had a huge facitility on the North side of Lansing.)

They also went on strike with the UAW in Fall, 1970. When the GM strike was finally settled (8 weeks), the MW strike took a little longer. There was such a backlog of orders (SS1/P05 option on Olds, same wheel as Chev) that Motor Wheel couldn't keep up with the backlog. In true Mother General fashion, they told Olds (maybe others) that we couldn't get those wheels until they catch up to the Chevy backlog.

Back then all divisions had their own purchasing (and everything else) so Olds went to the manufacturer of the Magnum 500 wheels and signed a year contract with them (1971 model year). The difference was the MW wheel took a trim ring since the outer rim was painted. The other one was all chrome. As a result, we ended up with a better wheel and since a one year only, and a low volume year at that, and they are quite rare.

The "one year only " Buick wheel sounded very familiar, but I don't think any other division used that same wheel. Fortunately, the aftermarket Olds SS1 wheels are virtually identical (except not made in the US anymore).

Dave, Tom is correct, and the wheels were made by Motor Wheel, Joe Guzek former Motor Wheel engineer talked about the wheels at the Buick Performance Group Nationals during the GSX Reunion, it was very hard to hear him, with race cars starting up to get to the staging lanes, I think some one recorded his and the others, Dennis Manner, Ron Frakes, and was going to post, on the BuickPerformaceGroup Forum, I haven't had time to check it out, but you might look there or maybe someone here knows the link, if it got posted, see you all in a couple of weeks, with GSX #14, I hope.

New axles are in and water in the cooling system. Car fired up and is ready to see some miles before Stanton.

I will post the pictures, but the left axle snapped and the right axle the splines were twisting. Who said Olds did not produce some torque!!!!!:eek2:
