The only issue is i have no idea where to get some good steelies LOL :Dou: . When i bought my car i found in the trunk all four dogdish caps, need some loving but they are there.

SOOOO what i want to do is buy some new steelies, gotta be black or red :TU: , 15x8's for the front and 15x10's :eek2: for the rear. i currently have a brand new set of Cooper Cobra radials on the back, 295/50R15's thanks to previous owner, and would like to keep em to save some cash. The fronts will be 245/60R15's same make.

Anyone know if i can get these rim sizes anywhere? I think Wheel Vintiques (sp?) might be my best option.

    Thanks

I think you're doing the right thing. Here's a couple pics of my 70GS Stage1 with poverty caps. A real grocery getter. In the day, would have been going heads up with Challengers, Barracudas, Road Runners, GTXs, Chevelle SS, Camaro SS, Firebirds, GTO Judges, 442s, and beating them all in shame.

I love the understated look. Just gives the other guys a false sense of security. We used to say back then that chrome wheels look good but don't make it go faster. Same with stripes.

Poverty wheels were purchased to take off and be replaced with Cragars or something. I know it does not matter but I am sick of seeing them on nice cars. Unless a car really came with them they only belong on station wagons and Mopars and have become too Chic. Don't hate me too much.:Do No:

Hmm, I see ur point Dave. The only reason I like them is because u never see them in California. If my pops had his way big 20 inch goose wheels would be on it and I can't stand those.

My car came with steels originally but were replaced with ugly truck steel rockcrawlers by previous owner. I would get rallyes but there are much more expensive and I just want to get it on the road, so we'll see.

Well, back in the day, we would toss any factory wheel and run American Mags or chrome rims. I ran chrome rims because I couldn't afford the 15x6 and 15x8 mag rims that I would have loved to have. As soon as I purhased my 65 GS in 1967 I pulled the stock spinner wheelcovers and ran bare black until I could get the chrome rims I could afford. Poverty caps were not a consideration, "baby moons" were. Styles change and now I could see running poverty caps with narrow steel wheels in the front and wider in the back. But I would run those rims on an understated car with little chrome. My choice will probably be factory style (but not size) rally wheels. I image 15x7 in the front and 15x8 in the rear. To each his own, it is your ride. Make it what you want it to be. Remember, it only takes a couple of minutes to change tires and rims. Just my 2 cents worth.

Roy and Chris, those look rad. I really like the black GS, a little too much rake for me but nice dark look :bglasses: Steels wouldn't be the last set of rims or my final choice, just right now they are the cheaper option and I have a full set of poverty caps and figure might as well use em. Once the Coopers wear out then i'll change to a different style of rims. Like you say Kurt it doesn't take long to change wheels :TU: and working in a tire shop makes it easier lol

Roy, looking good. I see some new polish on that car and you lost the trim rings. Back to original.

Kind of weird seing a front license plate. Down here in MS we only have them on the back.

Up Here the cops lobbied to have front plates put back on cars. We did not have them for years here but they were required back in at least the 50's-70's. I guess the cops wanted to see what is coming at them???

spent several hours polishing this winter it did make a difference was worth the time.Took trim rings off for a while but I like the look both ways.:Do No:

Up here on the classics you dont need both plates you can get a set of correct year ones (68) for the year made and I just got a pair instead of a single or you can get a single plate from the state that says collector car and put on rear only. Modern cars need two plates for the cops but only tabs on rear.

I think it makes it harder to take the pics from the radar cams and make it stick if there is no front plate. That's my idea and I'm sticking with it. I don't think we have any of those cam's yet but I keep reading about the threats to put them into play.

Am glad they don't do those things here. In fact, other than State Troopers, cops aren't allowed to use radar in MS. So aside from interstate roads they need to trail you for 1/3 mile before issuing a ticket. That adds a level of comfort when you're stretching a bit.

It feels good to live somewhere that you can feel that the laws aren't rigged to get you easily. We're still a red state.

Do any kind of steel wheels work? My 65 has some 15x7 on it now and but I'm missing the caps. I have six Rally Wheels that I was going to run driver quality if your interested 2 14x6's and 4 15x7's
