Got my caps from a fellow board member. They are in fantastic condition. I placed a wanted ad and got responses from a number of people. If you want good ones they won't be cheap...but the extra few bucks is worth it for shiny, non-dented pieces.
I purchased "steelies" for my 70 at Pick-N-Pull up here in Sacramento. They were off of an 1987 Chevy caprice, 15x7 stamped on the inside. The best part; $5.00 each, so do not buy new wheels!! It only took me one afternoon of looking to locate them. I saved the following website on my phone ( http://www.vehicle-bolt-pattern.com/ ) and then when I came upon a car with a possible match, I just checked against this chart to confirm the size. Besides, cruising the boneyards is fun any way, right? Kevin 70 GS clone
One good thing steelies are great for is the "long haul". Simple enough, a small tire/high sidewall on the highway is going to be a little more forgiving to the potholes at highway speeds than a low profile tire on a 17" or 18" rim.
The current favorite of my cars with my favorite caps. See pic. These are original correctly stamped steel wheels with the correct original caps and rims. The car originally came with the ralley wheels but I prefer these. Ralleys are a to prevalent, these are so much less seen. Also, this car looks like a grocery getter with the vinyl top and color combo. It just makes it look even more like a "sleeper" from my point of view. 99.9% of people don't know what Stage1 under the GS badge means anymore... 95% don't know what GS means. It's just an old Skylark. 80% of people probably don't know what a Skylark is either. 50% would guess an old Chevy.
