Thank you all for the information, I have been looking at the self-contained tracking units that have geo fencing with notification if it moves. I guess pairing that with a club would be the best way to prevent and maybe able to get the car back.

I'm planning on putting some small piezo electric "pain generators" alarm that goes inside the car. I figure I can hide a couple up in the dash along with a small battery so even if they cut the battery, their ears still bleed inside the car. It is supposed to put out 120db which would sure make it hard to concentrate.

Have you found a partial tracking unit that you find will do the job (geo fencing)?

My problem is, I don't want to buy a GPS unit that I have to pay a subscription.
Also the battery capability is limited. Makes recharging offend.
It you get a larger tracker battery, it makes concealment more difficult.
I have an Android phone, I need to find a GPS system that is compatible with it. I also agree, the club is a good idea.
If you have found GPS system I could possibly use, I would like to hear about it. Vet

My Fi does not have an antenna. Its about the size of a book of matches. It has LTE-M and GPS. It does not appear to have a bluetooth capability. So it should work well and not be detected.

I think car alarm would work just as well.
I have a decibel chart. Pain begins at 120 decibels.
    Normal conversation is 60-70 dAB.
With the laws and shady Lawyers, one could be in trouble using like "Pain Generator".
Don't think I want to go down that path. Vet

This is strange, I found a GPS tracker, the used both blue-tooth and WiFi.
    The software is subscription FREE.
    Guess what it's used for.
    A dog tracker. What!
It's on Amazon. It's on sale but not cheap, $159.00. Sold by Pitpat.
    Water proof, size: L 2.36 x W 1.33 x T .700.
Lithium rechargable battery with a charging pad.
Says,Compatible Devices ‎Smartphone, but does say which OS.
Anybody ever use this type GPS?
Seems like I could use this in my car.
I revived Tile Air Tag for my Android but, distance is limited to 400 feet and uses a coin type battery (not rechargeable). Vet

I personally would NOT recommend any air tag device being apple or Samsung. They suck. They don’t use real time data. It’s not (gps) it has to ping off other peoples phones and that is if they are close enough as well as having their Bluetooth enabled. I’ve tried it. I live in a very populated area and it works for ****.

I completely disagree with leaving the chances of my car to an air tag.

It’s worth the small fee to get a GPS tracker live time.

I found mine at best when we tested it to update every 30-40 minutes. That’s too large of a gap for me. But I understand that some people live in areas that they don’t have to be as concerned.

I would suggest if you have an old apple phone that still works. Add it to your plan. Some plans are as low as 10$ to add a line. Hide the phone in the car. If you have to charge it every week then you have to charge it. If you want to wire up a usb charging port and leave it connected to the charging cable that would give you real time live data of where your car is.

Hello Again, Good conversation about keeping your car where you park it. I did some deep searching and just purchased the Land Air Sea "54" , it is fully self contained with a rechargable internal battery. It is a 4g/GPS unit. Ratings look good. I bought directly from them, the salesgirl, Claudia set me up with the unit and 6 months of service, with no contract. The service will stop in 6 months and can be reactivated next spring with no reconnect fee. It is a promo from them. On paper it looks good, we will see. It has all of the features I was looking for. I will post when I get the unit, I will pair this with the Club.

    Wow, sounds good.
How long does this Promo last for?
I'll have to get in the Internet and check out the Land Air Sea "54". Thanks Vet

Our company uses a product called Bouncie. It is full GPS functional and plugs in to the OBD2 connector for power. We hide them inside our vans and power them from the vehicle battery through an OBD2 adapter. They will work anywhere there is phone service and you can do many things with the information it collects. One way to track unauthorized movement is to put a very low speed threshold in place and your phone will be alerted when those conditions are met. Not the cheapest thing in the world, but neither is your pride and joy. www.bouncie.com

If you are looking for something that you can use on a daily driver, I can't help. If you are looking for something that you can use if your car or trailer will be parked for a few days or longer, consider a boot. They can be cut off, but it's enough of a PIA that the thieves will likely move on unless they have targeted your specific car. Boots come in a wide variety of price points, but you can get one in the $50 range, or you can spend a lot more. I would assume that you will get what you pay for, but similar to padlocks, they are designed to keep honest people honest. If the thief is a serious dirtbag, he will get your car one way or the other.

Unfortunately, my 54 year old Buick GS doesn't have an OBD2.
    Thanks anyway. Vet

Just because you CAN use an OBDII adapter, you don't have to use it. Any hardwire 12v source should work. I've long suspected a person could hide one between the rear package tray and the deck it sits on with power tapped from the trunk light which is always powered.

    That sounds doable.
I like the package tray idea.
Easy to get RF signal out and through the rear window and a good concealment area. Vet
