H R and Parts rear end bar adjustment

Today I took the Suncoupe for a drive (first since putting it back together) and when I get into the gas it wants to pull to the left.

Over the winter I had the rear end out from under the car for a rebuild.

The only thing adjustable on the rear end is the sway bar (H R and Parts).

My question is can I adjust this out with the bar or do I need adjustable trailing arms.

As far as I can tell nothing is bent.

First thing I would do is unhook the bar, and see if it goes away.

Yes, it (pulling to the left) went away, but the car lifts funny with no bar attached.

If I attach it like the directions say, it pulls to the left.

Mike its obvious you got the NASCAR bar not the NHRA bar :)

I would give HRpartsNstuff a call to get their take on it.....For the price of these things they oughta send a tech out to install them for us! Nice quality but WOW price! I found a number on their website:

Make sure the bar isn't preloading one side of the rear suspension. Did you install the bar?

Yes, I put the bar on both times my self. Followed the directions to the letter.

Ever since the Procharger install, it has gotten worse. It was not that bad last fall. Now that I have the rear end back in (with a different gear ratio), it is pretty bad now.

I am not sure what way I should pre-load it.

It shouldn't be pre loaded at all. I would make sure all your bolts are tight. If you have adjustable control arms, make sure one hasn't loosened up.

All the trailing arms are solid (so there is not any adjustment there).

I am just going to remove the bar completely and start over.

I have had that trouble to, but it was not HR BAR fault.

The passenger side upper control arm top bushing was torn/worn out.

    Strange.

I took it for a front end allignment and found out that it out.

Need to take the upper right (passanger's side) off and do some milling before they can get it alligned. :af:

I put after market A-arms (Global West) on it over the winter and there is not enought to allow it to be alligned.

    Global West uppers, and lowers?

    Yes, Uppers and lowers.

At first the tech was blaming it on the frame "rolling over".

Moog sells offset upper control arm shafts that can sometimes help with an alignment problem. About 20 years ago, I used an HO Enterprises kit to install F body spindles in my 72 Skylark. The increase in handling was unbelievable, but I remember having to use a large amount of shims to get it aligned. The offset control arm shafts helped a bunch. I thought the Global West arms were built with this in mind though.

I must have gotten a stright shaft or ?

The left side is fine he said.

Just can not do a full alighment until I "fix" the issue.

All the shims are removed of the upper right and it still need to move "some".

Drove the car home from the shop and it is a little better.

Out of curiosity, what rear differential are you using? If it's a 12 bolt, I might know why you have an issue.

Did you install the bar with the car on the ground?

Did you weld the brackets to the axle tubes?

I took the rear end out of a 1971 Monte Carlo.

I did again. I took one bolt all the way out and adjusted the link so there was no pre-load on the bar.

No, the brackets are not welded to the rear end housing. Just bolted in place.

Is there a certain angle the links need to be when the car is setting still on a level surfice?

Does the bar need to be level with mounting surfice of the rear cover?

I wish I could be more help, but I took my HR bar off and sold it.

    Just from memory-

The bar centerline should be close to the centerline of the rear cover; side to side, and front to back (at least with the 12 bolt it's close). I thought the links for the bar were pretty much vertical when installed.

Don't quote me on any of that though; I'm just going off of my memory.

Not sure, did all the Monte's come with 12 bolts?! If that's what you have, check the clearance between the driver's side upper control arm and the differential housing where it slides over the bushing. My GW arms I'm selling needed to be clearanced to fit! They say they fit all 10 and 12 bolts, but they rub the center sections on the 12's.

    EDIT:

    Disregard that last post!

I looked over some pics of when I had it installed.

The vertical links look like they should be angled towards the back a little (at the bottoms). The bar looks like it should be underneath the rear flange of the housing, not the cover.

Here's some pics, including my issue with the upper control arm.

Thanks for the help, but I have "No-hop" bars on the rear end.

I will have to losen the clamps on the rear end as I do not have the center lines as you have said.

Now that I think of it, it was installed differently the first time.
