I'm shopping for collector car insurance and have a few questions. I'd appreciate it if anyone with experience with Hagerty would PM or e-mail me. It doesn't matter if you have or haven't filed any claims. [I'll be away for a few days, but would love to return to a full in-box. Thanks.]
Hagerty and Collectors are your top picks. Beware of Grundy which only writes underinsured to state minimum limits.
Can't say enough good about American Collectors. Been with them 25 years. Have had two claims. No hassles. http://www.americancollectors.com/
I have used Hagerty for years , and they are GREAT!!!! The big thing is they don't gripe about the miles you drive. They have covered two claims for me , and there was no problem.
Love em!!!!!!!!!!!! No hassles- no problems- FARE!! My claim on my chevelle went as smooth as could possibly be. The adjuster was fair and willing to work with me. He found things I didn't even see. Had my check in a week.
I work in the claims end of the insurance buisness for the last 17 years and I love Haggerty . Had 1 claim no problems they are located in the traverse City Mi area and there owned by C&N Insurance group. They offer a standard stated value policy with a few minor stipulation like proof of a everyday driver with full coverage and has to be an original veh with no major modifications (tubbed ,caged ect) There also a little touchy about custom paint and graphics.. ......seems to me Hagerty has a question in their application that asks if you race the car. What happens if you say no and they find out you did, or if you say yes, they reject your application, but now it's on file? Or do they allow it, but you're not covered when you do?
I don't remember that question. I have had 3 Torinos insured with them and they are easy to deal with. Does any insurance company cover race cars? I'm thinking no. Especially if it happens on the track. I could see an insurance company covering a race car against theft or natural disasters. Anyone know about this?
We have covered this in the past: http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=115129&highlight=race+coverage+insurance
Thanks, Jim. I don't wander far from the 3 "Other Guys" categories, so don't see much else on this site. I think that thread covers pure race cars pretty well, but most of ours, including Brian's are primarily street legal cars that he used to race occasionally and may again someday if we can ever talk him out of those headers. I see a difference between not being asked a question v being asked and lying on an application, or risking possible non-coverage on a non race incident. I'll check out the Hagerty application and see if that question is there, or just another rumor.
Hagerty all the way. I had a small incident where i backed my GS into my car trailer. I went and get a estimate like they asked. The night before i was to take it to the body shop i couldnt do it. As i had done everything to my car myself. I called them up and explained the situation. They had no problem with it and issued a new check in my name . I was even willing to fix it for just the cost of the parts but they gave me the whole bodyshop estimate.
Hagerty does cover cars that are modified . But im sure that dosent cover if you do something racing it.
I have Hagerty as well. Thankfully no claims to date!! I answered YES that I race my car on their form. They assume NO LIABILITY if you use the car in any racing event. They did not deny me coverage, nor did my rates go up. I like the fact they offer muscle car road service with their policy.
Haggerty will cover a modified car, however it will cost more than an unmodified car, and under no circumstances will it be covered for racing. They even ask in the policy that if you want to show your car at an event that includes a race that you let them know what you are doing ahead of time. They will require pictures to verify there are no headers, or other racing equipment on the car.:3gears: :idea2: ray:
Well that brings up the next sticky issue: What is Modified? Do you really think that headers alone qualify a car as modified? I can't imagine that. Where do you draw the line? Is going up a size on wheel and tires modified? What about that K&N air filter? You're right -- Hagerty's premium for modified vehicles is significantly more expensive than for stock. I take that as intended for cars with a significant horsepower increase and/or custom body work.
