Harbor Freight recalled their 3 ton and 6 ton jack stands because of defects .

Now they have recalled the 3 ton jack stands that replaced the original defective ones .

Just got a E-mail notice . Be Careful . Be Very Very Careful .

I saw that. The welds don't hold were the two halves are joined. Looks like bondo popping off.

Remember, 3 Chinese tons is not the same as 3 American tons.

With all this covid the regular welder didn't come in to work or died I guess. Gotta get the new ones trained up better before letting them loose on the wares they sell.

cheap a$$ companies like harbor freight should not be allowed to sell any kind of jacks or stands! i am all for saving a bucks, but would never trust my life on cheap jack stands. i still am amazed at my friends 8 dollar {after super coupon lol} h/f angle grinder that is 3 years old and he uses it alot. how in the heck can they build it then ship it overseas then ship to stores and sell for under 10 bucks and make a profit lmao.

If I jack up one corner of a car I lower floor jack just enough so frame is resting on jack stand as well as floor jack prior to going under, if I am putting stress on something like a starter bolt it's two jack stands and a floor jack.

is it really worth saving a couple bucks when your life is literally on the line? I would never purchase anything of any safety importance from Harbor Freight.

I have some orange & white 3 ton jack stands that I have been using for 30+ years. I don't think they are Harbor Freight though. I believe they came with a Sears Craftsman floor jack that I bought way back when. I guess I am O.K. If they were going to fail, I guess they would have by now.

The older ones were from Homo Depot about 25 years ago. Totally fabbed and welded from angle iron, but with a cast iron ratchet. The Pittsburglars were from H/F. These are stamped and poorly welded steel in 2 halves with a cast iron mast. So far its a 100% refund or swap, but the new ones are at least a month out at two stores up here... ws

Jacked up my van (7,000 lbs) and pulled both wheels off one side, two 30 year old 3 ton stands sunk a little bit into the hot pavement. Still would not get under there without adding two more stands. They are cheap.

YEP... sharp corners on hot asphalt are just as bad as a collapse. At least a chunk of 3/4" plywood under each one.... Harleys are another good one. Come outa the joint and find it laying on its side with the kickstand IMPALED into the blacktop by 12 inches... ws

At least HF is recalling the jacks.... What about their competitors. NOT...... You know Home Depot Lowes ETC is selling the same jack made by the same manufacturer as Harbor Freight...

I also have a orange and white 3 ton pair going on at least 10 years. Looking at the welds the pic makes it look like a lot more weld that actually there.
Iv'e used them plenty but not a whole lot.
I have their smallest 2 1/4 jack and that has taken a beating and still going good. I do though like others posted use a combo of a stand and the jack to what ever side i'm working under,
Could this have saved the stand a bit?
Is there any years that the jacks are not in recall?

    To the Harbor Freight Community:

I'm writing to apologize. I often reach out to tell you about Harbor Freight's commitment to quality and all the investments we've made to deliver quality tools at the lowest prices. Your trust matters deeply to me and I'm proud of how far we've come. So when we have a product recall, it hurts.

A few months ago, we recalled our Pittsburgh 3 ton and 6 ton steel jack stands (SKUs 56371, 61196 and 61197) due to a manufacturer's defect. We asked customers to return them and receive a gift card that could be used to purchase replacement jack stands. I felt terrible about that recall because you should never have a concern about the safety of any of our products.

Today, I feel even worse. I'm disappointed and embarrassed because we've identified a welding defect in a small number of the Pittsburgh 3 ton steel jack stands (SKU 56373) that replaced the recalled jack stands. We're now adding these jack stands to our recall. Unfortunately, this defect wasn't discovered during the initial recall investigation. If you own these jack stands or any of the jack stands in our original recall, whether or not you have had an issue with them, please stop using them immediately and bring them back to your local Harbor Freight Store for a full cash refund or store credit (see details here).

We have investigated all of our other Pittsburgh 3 ton steel jack stands (SKUs 56371, 56372 and 57308) as well as the Pittsburgh 6 ton steel jack stands (SKUs 56368, 56369 and 56370) and Pittsburgh 12 ton steel jack stands (SKUs 56374 and 56375) and did not find the defect. Although none of these other jack stands are being recalled, if you own any of them and have any concern whatsoever, please bring them back and we'll give you a full cash refund or store credit for those as well.

I want to apologize to all of our customers. While we've dramatically grown our team of engineers and inspectors, and intensified our tests and inspections, I assure you that the lessons learned from this will drive further improvement.

As the owner and founder of Harbor Freight, I want you to know that we stand behind every product we sell and that safety will always be our top priority.

    Sincerely,

Thanx yachtmanbill;) for posting this info..
Although my over 10 year stands seem still good the part # on them is on this list..
Probably get the money and go right to Sears, unless some think the Sears stands are bad?? I haven't looked and searched and done my homework yet..

Hey Pete...To tell the Gods honest truth, they are probably all made in the same gulag. Im half tempted to just grind mine clean and weld them myself. That cast iron mast still bugs me though. If you look at the pics above, the steel is rusty with mill slag (the bluish stuff which means its hot rolled steel)(the cheapest and dirtiest kind of steel to make) and then zero penetration. Probably done with a MIG on a frozen, windy day outside in upper Mongolia. Theres two MIG passes on that failed weld. Legally (?) it shouldve been ground clean, then there shouldve been three; a root weld, then a pass on either side of that tying all three and the base metal together.

Thats MY Q.C. analysis and Im sticking with it.

The only other place up here would be NAPA Crappa, CRACK auto, or Northern Tools (used to be northern hydraulics) where all the chinacrap started in the 70's. Probably ALL from the same gulag for $$$ purposes.

Can Guy Parquette pipe up on this issue please?? Store/cost/company policy etc?? ws
