List of Small Blocks that have pulled a 1.9x in the shootouts......... I could only find 7 total.. Paul R 1.956 2007 Benoint 1.957 2004.1 Benoint 1.969 2004.1 Dave H 1.977 2004.1 Donny 1.978 2009 Paul R 1.983 2007 Donny 1.986 2006
Anyone got a theory as to why the small blocks struggle to launch more than the big blocks? They may have less low-end torque, but they weigh less and are typically geared lower. o No:
I offer this about big blocks I think it's when the RPMs come down that small blocks suffer, so the second 30 feet is where we are slower......
Torque moves race cars down a track .Big blocks have more and launch harder .I wish qualifying 60 ft times were used Ive run 1.83's and many more up to 1.89's this year at Stanton. Thanks for the work producing these stats here for us to enjoy.
weigh less? Olds weights are almost the same...it's all torque and where it happens. Notice none of the small blocks on the sub 2.00 list are automatics, even though they can preload the suspension and have a torque multiplier off the line. You don't need as much gear with that...but most small block cars love it. The more the better. My car had fabulous 60 foots with the Crane 284H cam (significantly less cam than the factory W31), but I was a sitting duck at the 1000 foot mark when it ran out of steam. My best with that cam was a 1.90 at Norwalk...5000 RPM and slide the clutch...Normally it's 4000 and slide it. Always in the 1.90's at that time. Got to keep the revs up. :bglasses:
Off the trailer with the LS6 Vette I went a 1.773 this year. It went down hill from there. On Wednesday before the race I went a 1.75 at Stanton. The track fell apart quickly this year. Mark
I heard that the automatics could just about mat the throttle off the line at Milan last weekend. That sounds pretty awesome! Jim
Maybe the boys with the 60 series tires. Those of us on 205R70-14 still broke loose with too quick a throttle application.
I think you just need to burn those radials up and get a set of Wide Ovals or Polyglas. They would give you some great 60 ft. times, especially with that girly trans you got.
I left full throttle and never spun......... 1.85 60ft I tried to spin and didn't......................1.84 60ft On radials at 22psi with the car setup to get ice cream :TU:
I thought the hook at Stanton was pretty good this year...... there were plenty of cars that should be on these lists after 2011.......
