I wouldn't doubt it....there aren't too many of these things floating around in original condition. And most of those owners know about this board:TU:

PackerBacker (Steve? if I remember right)...... why the hidden bidder names?
I'm sure you're not up to any funny business, but that's what I usually think when I see that the bidders names are hidden. I have never bid on an auction with hidden names. I avoid them.

    Rick,

My thoughts are/were at the time of listing the vehicle that it's nobody's business who's bidding on it. I also opened the door in the ad and quite frankly hope to sell it off line - it's certainly looking like it'll go that route at this point.

Personally I've never let a private bid prevent me from going after something I've wanted on ebay and I've been at this for a long long time now.

God and my family know I'm not into these cars to make money but rather I've been chasing dreams - one's that quite frankly will never be fulfilled. At this point I'm beaten, humbled and defeated quite frankly the whole collection may go - but that's yet to be decided.

    Steve:

I know what you mean. My wife says I can buy 'em, redo 'em, and lose 10K on them with the best. (Plus nothing for my time and labor.)

A driving force is certainly to bring another one of these great rolling works of art back to life. If you do that you are going to lose money.

Sorry to see your X go but if it goes to someone who will bring it back to life asap that is important.

Wow.....I hear and feel what y'all are sayin, I just sold my Z28 and got my head beat in, I have never EVER even as much broke even on a car I have done, but going to shows and seeing one of my past winter projects setting there and people are checking it out, they now were it came from, they remember and they always come back to me and tell me, man, that car still looks killer!, I do old and new and loose my butt on them all, lol, some folks around here on my newer stuff say "if you want a bad ride, watch for Suggs to be driven a new truck/car and then go find out were he traded it off!", I tell ya, everyone has a hobbie rather its drinkin to hunting and they ALL loose money but to me, building something from junk rather its a old car or old house is priceless, it will always be there, it will always be around, and the people that also enjoy such things will always know the person who put their heart and soul in bringing it back to life, or with the newer stuff, waking it UP!...lol :Brow:

My wife will never understand, that or I am not articulating worth a darn. But I actually get a warm fuzzy out of taking an old Buick and doing what someone else wouldn't even consider - bringing it back to its original glory.

While I've encountered a bump (of all cars on the X) I'll be doing it soon enough once again. I can remember the Stage 1 auto I have the day it arrived. More laughs from bystanders than you could shake a stick at. And today? I'd put it up against anything just shy of a 400 point car :)

Unfortunately, I'm not the heir to the Rockefeller estate that I think I am - although I'm personally responsible for that nice building that houses the CitiGroup folks in Dallas :Dou:

    Steve,
You've gotta be pretty happy with the bid action on this car, this is going to redefine what the market value is on these cars.

    I dunno about that Len

The reserve is NOT (at least yet) met.:Smarty:

I would have done it differently. First, NO way would I have a private auction. Then I would have had a reserve set higher than anyone would bid. And after the auction, I would have contacted 2-3 of the high bidders.:bglasses:

The really sad part about it is that, unless you have a car like this one, you are better off parting it out than selling it as a whole, at least when you consider the money you will get for it.

No it's not at reserve yet, but with 6 days left on the auction it's going to go higher. I can't imagine that it would go past $20k, just plain doesn't make sense to spend that kind of money when you can get a completed car for less than $50k. If I were the seller I'd be pretty happy with current price given the amount of time left to bid.

Ryans-GSX Have fun, life is short.

    wow !!!!

I am amazed at the price on this car and what some people will bid on ebay yes I know it is EVILBAY but as noted earlier for a seller it is a way to get top dollar for your car "and I did very much consider selling my GSX on ebay and I have to say that many times I wish I had ....just for the amount of money it would have brought " unless someone has a lot of NOS parts for this car they are in for a rude wake up call!!! but I also understand that some people cant come up with 50k for a show winner but can come up with 15-20K for a car that is there dream car and being one of thous people it sucks when you figure out that you need about 40K to bring it back to a show piece problem is when they figure this out they find they paid to much for the car and now cant get out without taking a loss ebay is for sellers not buyers if you buy somethig on ebay you better know that in 99% of time you are paying top dollar I sold my car to a buick guy and on this board. I like dealing with the people on this board I have sold and purchased items off this board and like doing it this way I realy wish buick guys could sell every buick on this board but I do understand that sometimes you need to sell things on ebay just to make a little money to fix your own buick up and that is what I do. just giving my 2 cents worth :beer

I think you guys are way off on restoration costs. To turn it over to a shop is an easy $65,000 and that would not include all the parts required to fix that heap. John C, is this the car you showed me pictures of for $15 a couple of years back?

    Brian,
I was being conservative, there's alot of folks that are putting out 6 figures to have a builder take a car from basket case to turn key. If your somewhat skilled though you can offset alot of assembly type labor cost. No way to get around the parts issue, and top shelf body and paint for that car will be in excess of $20k even with a kind hearted shop owner.
This type of car only comes around every so often, and it comes with a responsibility to do it right or sell it to someone who will.
Thankfully I'm a 68-69 guy so I don't have to worry about getting a crazy rare, ultra desiralbe model (at least not one that can be documented).
