I agree with everyone about this car. But I keep thinking about the GSX that sold in the summer on ebay for only 16,900. I was 45 seconds away from buying it. :ball: Yes it didn't have the correct number engine, but it was till a real GSX.
    Such is life.

I had a comment on the "buyers Identity protected".

I just recently sold my 69 Hurst Olds on evil bay and did mine the same way.

There are many of the "Daddy Warbucks" out there that have large collections of valuable parts and vehicles that don't want every "yahoo" who visit's ebay to know who bought the car.

I know some private collectors who will not even open their warehouse doors unless you swear first not to tell anyone where the cars are located.

Dealing with folks like that I now honor the wish of privacy many of the people who are actually bidders (rather than onlookers) prefer.

As far as Steve goes, and any implying that he would be doing this with any dishonest motives(?) really hacks me off as he is probably the main reason we now have the "Pay it forward" area from an extremely generous offer by him to coordinate his own donation of parts, as well as many other well intentioned board members, to help me repair my heavily vandalized 72 Stage 1.
Incidentally I had to decline the offer due to time constraints and offered to "give" him the 72 and he insisted on paying me regardless.
When I suggested to Steve we delete the post, Jim W. told Steve he thought it was such a great idea (donating parts to needy causes) and showed what a great group of folks we have here that we allow the post to remain.

    So for Steve?..............

Nothing but a class act as far as I'm concerned.

I wish him and any other members here the highest selling prices for their cars wherever the sale takes place.:beer

    Take it easy guys:TU:

    good point

yes john makes a very good point, some of the high rollers dont want anyone to know who bought the car. another thing is, alot of sellers feel ( and rightly so ) like they shouldnt have to pay a listing fee of what $80.00 ? plus final value fees ? only to have some spammer siphon off his bidders on a similar item outside of ebay. it happens an awful lot on ebay motors. the more i see on ebay, the more reasons i can see for private auctions. sadly, many people are weary of them for no good reason. study what you can, and bid late or not at all if concerned about shilling. i think a person should sell thier car the way they want to without having to explain everything.

    Howdy Adam!

Good point Henry, I forgot about some of the unsolictited e-mails from people "saying" they have the same thing for sale.

I fell for that type thing one time and got ripped off so no more for me (don't even respond).

I hope that you don't think I implied anything about Steve in my earlier post :

But I think I'm the only one who said anything. So you must be talking about me. :(
I certainly wasn't implying anything about Steve, and if it was taken the wrong way, I'm apologizing right now!
My first comment was "I'm sure you're not up to any funny business", and I meant that. I was only saying how I am usually skeptical about "private auctions".

So Steve, I'm very sorry if you took my comments the wrong way.
Thats not at all what I was trying to say.

Unfortunately..... regardless of all the "right" reasons for using private auctions (and I'm beginning to more understand their purpose now), I'm still weary of them because of all the other idiots on eBay that abuse them.
    :(

Rick - there's certainly no offense taken from your comments nor did I or I believe John lend our thoughts to anything in that direction from what you said. There is actually another post on the site here that blends my car with another and in that particular thread the comments are/were more stinging shall we say. I know John was articulating a response more from an overall standpoint than in direct response to anything here.

The worst comment here came from Brian in my opinion and he's entitled to his comment "that heap" and I'm entitled to my thoughts too!

Certainly I'm happy with how the auction has progressed; will it end early - maybe. Has it plateaued - no. The car will sell and it will be sold for higher than the number we all see now that I believe. Amazingly, we the people who BMW the most about the lack of respect we receive are also in the camp of degrading the worth of one of the crown jewels of our heritage. That's fine, we can choose whatever road we wish but we certainly aren't entitled to have it both ways. Next time we see a basket case LS6 Chevelle sell for $65,000 as I did a few years ago we should all get glassy eyed and envious about how much better everyone elses brand is versus our own.

I too sat behind the wheel of a 70 GSX that was in remarkable condition just 3 years ago that sold for 16,000 - today that car would bring 30k without a doubt. But, I didn't have the funds and someone else got the car - whatever no big deal.

Whether or not this were my car, my opinion is we should be applauding it's current offering. Will it put these things out of reach for more of us living the typical middle class lifestyle? Perhaps, but if you can weld and paint or have a buddy who can assist you and you've always wanted an X then you should be buying this car!

    Hey Rick,

Everything is cool, I was looking at both post's and still having some real "nice" pain from my surgery and I might have pushed my point a little hard.Sorry about that, no hard feelings.

I'm pretty hard core on the GSX's also. When I think about the 4 speed X I have been after for many moon's that had been totally neglected till recently (actually in a warehouse now!) and then see Steve's and know what he has been through to bring back other Gran Sport's I get a little "touchy".

Had things gone a little differently for Steve I have no doubt he would have had this bad boy standing SUPER tall no matter what it took.

If that car is a "heap" I'd like a "heaping helping" of them:laugh:

Anyhow best of luck on that sale :TU:

This GSX did not sell but how high did bidding go 15K?
Ebay shows it now as auction over and only a $ 100 bid
    What happened?
    Thanks

    Raising the bar

    Guys -

The car did sell in an offline transaction. Ironically (and no BS) it went to a very serious and private collector with over 40 cars in his collection - who did not want the sale or $ amount to be public information. Fortunately for me it's staying in my local area and I've been promised a chance to ride in/drive the car when the frame off restoration is completed. Very cool!

While I'll certainly miss the car, the funds have already done a lot of good for the family and there was enough left over to purchase a ROCK SOLID 69 GS400 with what should be a very powerful motor (gotta bring it home yet). It's my first time with the 68-69 body style and it's finally grown on me to the point where having one was - well - necessary!

I don't believe one sale can fully alter the market value of an entire line of cars but if this one helped to raise the bar a bit on all our cars then I'm glad to have been a part of it.

Sounds like you did well Steve. I'm glad to hear it! Please don't tease about the '69...what do you have coming?:Do No:

Thanks Brian - it did work out well on selling the X.

The 69 is a great find - it's a rock solid car all the way around and has a list of NOS parts included in the sale that'd make anyone drool. They aren't even necessary for use on this car so I may be off setting some of my purchase with the sale of some parts including dare I say an, naaaa I'll wait.

The motor was built by Jack Roushe Racing :beer and sports the old finned Edelbrock valve covers with spinner lock downs. Beneath them is a set of clean clean clean roller rockers - I think this one was built to fly. There was one torque thrust rim on the car when I first viewed it and it looked sweet under there so I'll be hitting the streets looking for three more. Pics to follow in the coming week as we trailer her home.

You nailed it Chris along with front inner and outer fenders

Absolutely love the look on those valve covers how'd you accomplish it? Taping everthing off or painting and stripping? Got a free side shot of the car available?

    Thanks!

    Hi Steve

What kind of side shot would you like ??

    as for the valve covers.....

First, I had the valve covers polished - If I was to do it now, I'd send them to JW and have his "Aluminum Process" done as the results look MUCH better.

Then, I just taped from the first fin down, covering the sides, sprayed the top, and quickly wiped the top fins with a rag that had paint thinner on it. Its time for a repaint but everything looks good in pictures:laugh:

Hope this helps.....they SURE do look great. Mine have been on this car since it was 1 month old - installed by the Buick dealership it was bought new from - along with the matching B4B. I had to stack several THICK cork gaskets together as well as grind the inside to get them to fit over the TA Roller rockers. Wonder how yours are done ?? AM&P now sells a "Halo" that serves the same purpose

Thems' some mighty purrrty parts you got there:Brow:

i am not very familiar with a bodies .... but things that caught my eye in the ad were ...

the intake has both red AND blue paint .... :Do No: is that a rare option.
you think th heater core is any good? ....hoses are cut.
the mounting of the body tag looks suspect to me.
