Im not big on the X-Runner, more towards the regular Tacoma. But the prices went up when Toyota redesigned it. So now i'll have to buy used, which is still better than any Ford, Chevy, Dodge in quality, reliability, and affordability. Still love my Dad's old 94' Toyota Pick-up, then he ran over an Olds and broke a headlight, and scratched the chrome bumper.

At first I didn't like the redesign but it seems to have grown on me. The only dissapointment is that they will not let you have a V6 4x4 in the reg. cab body. :( Other than that, Toyota has always pleased me.

Pat, what Tacome do you have? :Do No:

    Rob,
Ihave a 98 Tacoma that is Teal Green and is 4wd with the 3.4 5 speed.I have no problem hauling 1 ton of wood pellets(50 bags) on it either. And,its pulled 9 cars home on a tow dolly effortlessly.Including 7 Buicks! I can't complain 1 bit. What a great truck its been.

You can tow your Buick with it? That's why I was looking into one, but I figured for a Riviera on a full-size open trailer, towing would have to be about 6000lbs. :Do No: Your Tacoma should put out 190hp and 220ft. lbs. 5000lb trailer too! :Brow:

Say what you will, but no American made truck will last as long as a Toyota will. Think that may be an anti-american saying? I do own a classic Buick, but the American cars and trucks are not made as well as many others. It is not my fault, and not yours. But if I want the best bang for the buck and reliability for a truck, you can bet it will be a Toyota.

Hey, wait a minute, I have a Toyota - A Tacoma also. And I am witness to Pat pulling a Buick away from my house across mountains to his home. And I have pulled my Suncoupe behind my Tacoma as well, and did it with ease. She has 140K on the odometer and purrs like a kitten all day long.

I like the Tacoma's. Maybe someday Chevy and Ford as well as Dodge will build a dependable truck to my liking.Ihave 93,000 miles on my Tacoma and have only had to put a new set of tires on it and change the front brakes at 89,000.All I ever have to do to it is change the oil and run it.I have several Ford and Chevy owner buddies and I wouldn't trade their POS's for my Tacoma.

    chryco63 14's or bust!

I'll have to go with the Toyota guys on this one. They just don't make 'em like they used to. I'd consider a GM truck that's pre-TBI, but anything after that, even Ford or Dodge, I'm not interested in. My friend has a '02 Tundra with the 4.7 V8, and it hauls! It is a solid truck, too.

Yeah, Me too, but it has a GMC Emblem on it!

tttttttttttttttttttttttttttAnd I don't think GM and Toyota share info, and I'm trying to believe they don't but I'm almost confinced they do, cause if you check out a Tacoma, and a Sierra or Silverado, they share the same b-pillar seal or so it seems! just an observation of truck stuff, as I was a GM Truck Group employee, before the whole GM world became GM Vehicle Operations, and like no one is in charge, except Mr. Lutz, and he needs a clue on what the Real American wants to drive, and it's not an imported GTO, or a wanna be Soccer Mom Van called a Terraza, and let's not even go to talk about the LaCrosse, that has great lines, but looks like a POS Jaguar, Lexus, or some wanna be POS, When the RWD LeSabre, and others come out next year, lets hope that they have some pizzaz that the market relizes, there's something in Buick that you can't get anywhere else, as my Mom needs a new ride, and the '95 Riv she has with 67K on it is still a great car, but since it was only a 4 yr run, parts are going to be hard to find, some dealership willing to work on it will be hard to find, Etc, I'm a truck girl, and I can't wait to see what GMC does in 2006-7, I hope it is cool, otherwise, I'm keeping, the 2004, forever, maybe, RV

Toyota stole the wheelwells off of the Chevy Colorado. Man, I hate the look of those things. What's the advantage of having them shaped weird like that?

I got a question and it's out of curiousity. If we were living back in 1984 and were shown the pictures of these new trucks that are out on the 2005 market, what would you think of them?

I feel the past ten years the public has been forced to get used to the new truck styling ever since ford introduced the F-150 back in 1996, or whatever year they started putting curves in their sheetmetal.

I currently have a 95 Tacoma 4x4 with 135,000 miles and the only thing I have ever had to replace on it were tires, brakes and tune up parts. Truck still looks and drives like new inside and out.

My next vehicle will be a crew cab 280 horse Tundra. As made in the US as any Chevy, Ford or Dodge and will most likely out live them all. :beer

ok I'm going to have to put in a plug for Ford trucks. My dad commuted to work with an 81 F-150 years ago and put 300K on the thing before the valve springs got weak. He rebuilt the engine and put another 150K on it and sold it due to the body rotting out from the NJ salted roads.

I've been driving Ford Econoline 1 ton vans for the last 12 years and they are extrememly reliable. I had an 85, 89, 90, 93 and 2000 and bought every one used with 100K. I drive these things very hard every day in city and highway traffic fully loaded with parts, tools and ladders doing service calls and they haven't let me down. I still have the 93 and the 2000. The 93 has 225K on the original engine. It still has the original exhaust and it does not leak. The only one out of the five that ever got towed was the 93 when the original trans went at 119K. I change the oil, the brakes and tires and they keep going and going.

My wifes 97 Expedition 5.4 has 128K and it runs and drives like new and it has not even had a "tune up" There's no cap or wires and it runs the original plugs. She has never broken down with it.

Point is that there are very reliable American vehicles out there so you shouldn't discount them all and 130K is nothing to brag about anymore.

I always do all of my own maintenance and repairs and that helps. There are some mechanics out there that make lemons out of a perfectly fine vehicle.
