    Don't go in too deep!

You have a NEW lock cylinder, right? Measure how long, and tape the drill bit at or less than this measurement, poor mans depth gauge!

    Good luck!

well that didnt work either. i figure the last two ideas would be to finally call a locksmith, wich i should have done in the first place... or figure out a way to rewire another way to start the thing. i remember my uncle doing that when i was about 8. i always thought it would be cool to just push a button and have it fire up. im gonna surf the net to see if i find anything.

  5. Pete,
    Wondering how you made out?

    11. Insert a thin tool (small screwdriver or knife blade) into the slot next to the switch mounting screw boss (right hand slot) and depress spring latch at bottom of slot, which releases lock. Remove lock.

This is where I got lost too. Two taps of the hammer and I broke the casting. A small screwdriver got it out in the ACC position.
    Any luck?

I admit, the book (chassis manual) always makes things SOUND easier than it actually is in REAL LIFE!

When I had to do this once (THANK GOD for only once! Knocking on wood!!) the spring latch (the factory must have run out of springs for my lock cyl. it seems like it was WELDED!:af: ) was frozen. I sprayed alot of penetrant and just kept wiggling the cyl. and pushing on the latch (or release)! Finally it popped out.:Do No:

    Be patient, keep trying!:TU:

Try not to do anything that will permanently damage the column.

i think im making some progress. im looking at the new lock cylinder that a bought and i cant see how it can possibly still be stuck in there?!?i havnt damaged the colum, other then some scratches. i have a doner if it gets ugly though. the lock is pretty much done for. was even looking into a push button starter or another universal dash mount lock cylinder. i think im gonna give it another try this weekend.

i broke off the little tabe you all are talking about... i think. its in the hole after you take out the buzzer switch correct? i gotta get outside with a digital camera. thanks for all your help guys. im gonna get it running again one way or another!!!

well folks. im giving it one more weekend. if i cant get it out, im going with a push button starter. problem is... how do i change gears if the cylinder is still in the "off" position? is there a way to bypass this feature?

If you had a proper firearm you could shoot the damn thing out! (just kidding)... I haven't been in a steering column in soooooo long...... I can't believe you can't get a lock cylinder out though... Do you have any body shops near you with people you know??? Body shop guys are allways pulling columns and lock cylinders and for a few bux might be a better way to go than putting in some push button arrangement. Not to mention the steering wheel lock and if the car is a column shift your gonna have to bypass that lock out too...

good luck and keep us informed.
