I ordered a grille this weekend, and used the coupon and it took the 10% off the order. Got this email today though:

    Hello,
Thank you for placing your online order with The Parts Place. The GS grille that you ordered is not in stock, it will still be a few more weeks before we will be getting them in. Also, the GS grille is already discounted out because of the introductory price so we are unfortunately not able to have the discount apply on this item. If you wish to cancel this order, please let us know. Otherwise, the grille will ship out for $399 plus shipping when it comes in. Thank you very much and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.
    Thanks,
    The Parts Place

Oh well, it was a worth a shot! $399 is still a good deal, so I am getting one anyway!

I wish you had not said that. By insured do you mean to the $ 100 level that automatically comes with any shipment or to $399 level. Also if I were the PPI I would not use UPS for this ( or anything else). They can find a way to crush a cast iron pipe. I would go with Airtborne or Fed Express. If I request Fed Express rather than UPS can I get them?

We insure all our parts we send out for the full purchase price. We ship UPS, we have had nothing but problems with FEDEX. UPS seems to take care of our damages at least. It all depends on who you talk to. I can assure you that if you order a grille from us you will get a grille. :TU:

Never before have I seen anyone take UPS over Fed Express. All I can say is you need a better box and packing than the GSCA used or you will have some damaged grilles arriving.

We only had one damaged :spank: 71 grille out of all of the ones we sent out, and the replacement was recieved in perfect condition. We package them well. These grilles are very strong, we made sure it would be a quality part that would by far, out last the originals. Thanks for your concerns, you need not worry.

It looks like from what I can tell the 69 grille is going to be the next one out. We don't start working on a new grille until we finish the current one. It seems like we pick up a little speed and more quality every time we produce another one. We want to have a complete line, so eventually it will be available.

I believe 1969 GS grille is the year that is already being made by a member here, Frank MCintyre. If that is the case it is a very nice piece that will be hard to improve upon in any susbstantial way. Most of the pent up demand for the 69 grille went away when Frank produced a turn key product. It is a different situation than the GSCA already being in the marketplace with an incomplete 70 GS grille at a relatively higher price than the PPI.

Since the 67 guys, for example, are beating the doors down for a repro and no one is in the marketplace with a 67, we hope you will consider that. I believe you will get a quicker return on your initial investment which we realize is an important business consideration.

    In 'da house!

All I can say is WOW! :TU:

Excellent fit, finish, material quality, and durablity. This is a high quality injection mold, very strong, and the same dimensions and weight as the originals..

As a test, it was shipped to me in a thin cardboard box, that fit tightly around the grill, with absolutely no packing material at all.

Box was beat up, grill was in perfect shape. This thing is durable.

I did the shoulder level "drop test" to the concrete shop floor, and it passed with flying colors. Keep in mind I am 6'5".. so that's a ways to the floor.

Dropped right in, dead nuts on, in two different 70 GS cars. Beautiful reproduction of the studs.

What do I think of it overall?...

I bought 10 of them at the great introductory price.. what more do you need to know?

I also told him I would take those after he had filled all the current orders that you guys have already made, he wanted to make sure he could fill those ASAP, and mine will just be going on the shelf for future resto's. Nice to have a vendor interested in customer service like TPP.

I honestly have to say that they are nicer than the last few NOS grills I have seen.

A killer deal at $399... buy one now, and take that brittle 35 year old one out of your Driver or Race car, and mount it on the wall, so you can quit worring about leaning over the brittle OE grill, and breaking it.

Historically, the price has went up about $125 on TPP grills after the introductory price, so don't miss out on this deal. I have no inside info on what the actual increase will be, but the 71 was offered for $499, and went to $629 after the special was over.

Do I sound excited?.. yes.. I am.. because the number of repro parts that I can take out of the box, and put right on one of our cars here, is very small.. but this is one of them.

Now.. changing the subject just a little.

Joe (owner of TPP) asked me which grill should be done next.. My response was that the 67 should be done, as there is a repro currently available of the 69.. So you '67 guys... he told me that we need to come up with an NOS 67 grill, that he can buy, and that is the next grill he will start on.

So I need one of you guys to step up and offer up a 67 GS Grill for that pattern, and the next thing we can talk about is the awesome repro of that piece.

Also, I am going to get with them on the repro of the stainless trim and the bottom metal plate for the 70 grill.

IN the couple years The Parts Place has made..

    70 GS Grill
    71 GS Grill
    70-72 hood tach (great reproduction)
    70-72 Ralley Gauge cluster
    70 Big block PS brackets
One piece full trunk floor for the 68-72 cars

and a host of other parts I am sure I am forgetting.. we finally have a vendor who is investing big dollars for our cars, it's time to support that vendor, so he keeps making more parts.. and there is some cool stuff in the works yet..

It's a good day in Buick Land..

    GStage1 Always looking for parts!

Just more evidence what happens when UPS handles a box. Those idiots have damaged more parts than I want to remember and also have lost some of mine. Several of our local FL Buick members have experienced the same thing. After the 4th or 5th time for my parts, I will no longer use them. I have been using FedEx Ground and FedEx Home Delivery for over a 100 parts/packages and never had one damaged or lost. I don't know what/who Shane is dealing with at UPS but you must be getting some price breaks for the parts you ship.
I know UPS gives Dell Computer price breaks on shipping so when they quoted $99 to ship a new PC, UPS was only charging them $25-50 so the extra money went to Dell as profit.

I ordered 3 grills and I will definitely let you know how they arrive from UPS at my house.

Keep up the great work and I would suggest Shane and Joe listen to your future and current customers for product development and production.

Once the grills are done, I would suggest looking into the having the 70-2 headlight bezels made since pot metal repair on them is getting ridiculous.

    Hooray for thePartsPlace!

Another hard to find item for the 70 model Skylark/GS that they repro. is the cowl screen for only $29.00. Works great! What a bargain!

The hood nose chrome for the 70GS should also be considered as a lucrative piece to repro. in the future although I am sure it would be tough to do.

I would probably take the stainless piece for the lip of the grillle...
    Thanks to TPP!
