Great numbers turned in by both of these LS-6 engines!! I believe they topped all the stock engines that have been in MCR up to this point. There are several more engines I would love to see tested, but I guess at the top of my list would be the 426 Hemi. I have never seen a dyno test, like the ones Dan and the others are doing, preformed on a stock Street Hemi. Test like these are one reason I just re-newed with MCR.

Congrats to both Jim Lerum and Larry Weymouth! What a great article.
Jim's 1970 LS6 made 481 horse with 520 LB/ft of torque and Larry's made 489 horse and 491 lb/ft of torque. No wonder Larry kicked my a$$ all the way down the track!

Congrats Larry Weymouth and Jim Lerum on the LS-6 a thon.:TU:

I posted elsewhere that it was like "Godzilla vs Rodan"!Of course when you add Jim Mattisons L88 to the mix it was more like "Destroy all Monsters"

Nice write up ,and great explanation of all the different formats Mark!

    Great pics too!!!:kodak:

Thanks guys, too much fun! I would really like to see the the 428/429/426/427's of the big 3 go at it on the same dyno. Again, we race cars not dyno's but I think it really would be neat seeing the stuff in OEM form do battle. Car manufacturers really had a neat cubic inch race going in 1969.

Other big notables that I would really like to see hit the dyno. Darel Duttweiler has that 442 W-30 working so well that would be really cool. The Pontiac 400 RA IV have been really impressive the past 2 years. Mark get that latest motor in a magazine will ya. An NHRA spec buick Stage 1 would be cool. It might brake the dyno with all that low end torque.:TU: Sorry if I left anyone out but those standout in my mind.

I think that Dan Jensen needs to write a book highlighting his dyno experiences with all these neat motors.

    Jim

PS...........................A battle of GM's 396/400 cubes would be neat as well.:3gears:

Jim and Larry's motor's really were impressive. They made great numbers and back them up at the track. Thanks for the use/abuse of your pride and joys for Dan's and my pleasure.

Jim the RA IV for the T/A will have an article in an upcoming issue of Pontiac Enthusiast. As a tease it made more hp than the Judge RA IV motor in MCE we did.

The next motor which will be printed in an up coming issue of MCE will be a real surprise for many. The tease on this one is that it wacked every motor we have ever tested for hp/cube! The writing will be done this month so expect it later this summer in the magazine.

Some other PS participants are letting us take their prized motors for testing. We have a great array of new motors coming up over time. I want to pre-thank all that have and are lending us motors. It is a great deal of work/expense for those who do this for us.

I will work on the Hemi Tom. We have one that is about 1 1/2 years out from being rebuilt. If we can not find a suitable fill in before then that will have to do. I am very interested in that also. The other one I would personally love a shot at is a fully pressed Boss 429.

Thanks again Jim and Larry it is guys like you that make it fun for all of us.

Congrates on the numbers's. Was that this years motor(2006 pure stocks) or a new motor? I take it you went back to the stock GM cam. Nice article.

Looks like I better get back to work or you'll be drivin right by me :3gears:

    Tim,

This the same motor that has been in the car. I put on the emissions pump almost 2 years ago for a photo shot for Mike Muellers new book, American Horsepower.

It has always had the Crane reproduction cam in it from day 1. We've made it to the strip twice in 3 years. This year is year 4 and I hope for some positive changes. I have a new carb for her as the original one looks great but I don't know the full history on the work done on it. I have an X-pipe to install with some LM1 bongs for tuning.

Last years Martin race was my quickest time at 12.68 but had some issues. Some shims fell off the front end and I ended up at the NAPA Friday morning before I ever got a pass in. I was driving down the track with the car pulling to the right. 2nd gear in the trans was on the fritz day 2 and the advance on the distributor was hooked up to manifold vacuum instead of ported (carb) vacuum all weekend. The 4.33 gear didn't do any better in the 1/8 mile than the 3.73 2 years prior which doesn't make sense. It may all add up to nothing but I think their is a little left in her?????:puzzled:

Tim, I hope to pressure you really hard this year as you need some more competition from another 4 speed car other than Mark Weymouths and Bruno's ram air IV's. I'm just excited about 2007 and the events we are having. Obviously, its about the fun factor. Sometimes its hard not to press too hard tuning for an ET and forget what it's all about,....... FUN!

Barnes and Noble always have them. I know the one on M-59 near Lakeside carries it and the one on Rochester rd. and Auburn rd. always have some.

I have not had much luck with Borders.

Weymouth, You need to do a 428 versus 429 Cobra Jet test, Then maybe a 351c Boss versus a LT-1 Versus HO Versus Ram Rod VS Mopar six pack or so.
There's a bunch of neat comparos that could be run. I can provide you with some numbers from my Dyno test of the 312 Y Block Blower motor to keep it real interesting. Get Stefina to give you numbers fronm the Mighty M.
Should be enough material for several articles.:Comp:

    Scrounging good Fords?

The 427 from my Merc was featured against the Simpson 427 Zl-1 in Enthusiast.

Brian I almost mentioned that test earlier. Our problem Brian is you ARE our Ford source. The next article is on a Ford but that is the first time it does not include you. Donny has been working his brother in laws 429SCJ for us to no avail. Hopefully we can get a good group of Ford motors going.

We have more AMC items in the works also.

Mark if you need to do a 428 CJ sooner than fall I could pull it out anytime .It sure is easier when you have good freinds to help.I have a pesky but small oil leak to find and fix anyway. Thanks Steve:3gears:

Brian, can i get a copy of that article, I never saw it. By Mighty M I meant the 400, really would like to see the numbers on that bad boy.
Mark, We are trying to get more Fords involved, seems like if the Buick and Pontiac guys can get there, there ought to be some more Blue Ovals.

Pegleg I will be throwing my hat in the ring for the Blue Oval. Looks like my Ford will be ready for Martin. That is the goal and looks close but doable.

Pegleg I like your idea of shooting out the 428 and 429. And we may just have come up with a 429 today. Donny's was reconfirmed dead this morning and a half hour later I got some very promising news on a 429SCJ. Everyone cross your fingers.

Steve if the 429 works out I would get it next winter and that would work best for us anyhow. Let's schedule you for after this race season.

We have three motors dynoing in May and June so we are good for a short while.
