I've got a 6ltr Escalade that suddenly seems underpowered, What do you think the improved towing capacity might be with said mods? Means I can tow a bigger boat. Not worried about Santa, its forgiveness from Mrs 2x4 that is more concerning.
Sounds like your Escalade is about to have a major ‘engine problem’ that will require some shop time to fix! Patrick
Its an Armageddon kit with twin 76 turbos with billet internals, so it's supposed to be capable of 1400 hp. It's got an 800 hp tune in it now, runs really good but we are sorting out the stock 8 speed. Really nice and good fitting set up. The owner is looking into getting a custom trans built for it as we're quite sure this isn't going to last long the way it is...... We do a lot of crazy diesel builds with over 2500 ft lbs at the wheels but we don't get to play with trick gasoline stuff very often so I'm pretty stoked.
Besides the obvious additional mods to handle that kind of power, HP and Torque, what can the frame handle before it starts going down the road looking like a 76 Nova?
From what I understand & dont Quote me... I understand the Dmax pullers are putting in 47rh -re transmissions.. Lots more after market support
Tahoes and Suburbans are sweet vehicles. LS engines are sweet too, twin turbo, even sweeter. It is an odd combo, BUT it is a full frame, primarily RWD WITH a solid axle 3 plus tons is a lot of weight to move around tho.
I've read the 6l80e and the ford 6r80 are pretty similar. The 6r80 in a mustang with some billet stuff has gone 7s with a turbo. Cant see why a 6l80e couldn't be upgraded to handle the power. Still stand by my "the burb is cool" and I would definitely daily it. I think my 99 k2500 is pretty cool too, but not twin turbo cool.
That is a really cool Burban... I just scored the whole top end off a 2001 Ford Lightning including the heads to the top of the blower, every bracket, sensor, nut, bolt and the wiring harness for $1200 and it is in great shape. Gonna put it all on my 4x4 Expedition. Those blowers are only 1.8 liters so I'll never make more than 500-525 hp but once it's done KB makes a blower upgrade kit at $3K for next year after I blow up the stock block and put a forged unit in. But for now I'll bolt it to my stock 5.4 and slow the blower down. 1997-2002 4x4 Ford Expeditions all came with 3/4 ton drivelines, 4R100 trans, 4406 transfer case and 9.75 rear ends with 31 spline axles and a 3.73 locker diff. Brace the rear control arms and I'm good. 2003 and later went to crap. Mikey
Suburban = Cool. Period. Twice huffed upon, 800 hp ‘Burban? Hellaciously cool. I hate an LS in anything not Chevy, but I sure like what they’ll do in a Chev. Especially a really big one. Patrick
Might as well go all the way and put in bullet proof glass in case he drags the *** of the wrong person on the street.
WOW!! In the words of Clint Eastwood in Gran Torino: "Ever notice how you come across somebody once in a while that you shouldn't have [messed] with?" "That's Me!" That's what every unsuspecting person who gets their lunch taken away by this Beast of 'Burban will be thinking!! That is the epitome of a "Sleeper"!
When I was a young guy living in Tacoma Wa. there was a fellow with a early 50s Suburban with a strong running 409 in it. He blew the doors off my buddy's 52 Olds. We got a bigger kick out of it than the guy who owned the Burb did! Bob H.
I'd call that a neat double bourbon. But then again I live in Kentucky where there are more bourbon barrels than people.
While not as cool as twin turbos, this one comes with a 3yr/36k mile warranty. https://www.powernationtv.com/post/...Hw8SG6ln1EMrJjvz1rrRrGAko-69uUWxOuYwcJ6SdovJk
With a thick enough wallet, I'd do something similar with my 2007 Navigator. Either a blown Boss 429/494, or a 427 Cammer. A third possibility would be a nicely built Coyote engine of around 1500 HP.
'Burbans are cool in general IMO, but this one is off the charts! Good friend just bought one that a 2500 and been swapped to a Duramax. It's a pretty bad piece too.
Hey Lucas- Just saw this thread and made me think to tell you. Glenn bought a Mustang Coyote with twin turbo's after market block that puts out 1,700 hp. It is a street car with a parachute. E85 deal and can dial back the boost. He gave me a ride in it. Stab the throttle at 70mph and breaks the drag radials to shreds. I only almost died three times lol.
Badass! The Coyote is going to go down as one of the all time great engines. I'm waiting to see what the guys end up being able to do with the new "Godzilla" 7.3 gas engine, then that might lead to a swap into the F100 (all big block, all the time)......I posted on another thread but we did a 1/2 ton exactly like this 'Burb a few weeks ago, but I didn't get any pics. If it comes back in I'll take some and post up.
