    Rule bending

    J Mayer,
I doubt that your modifications really stretch the rules all that much. Next time you do rebuild it, an effort to find original pars would be cool. But I would be surprised if any body say anything much about it. Doesn't sound like you really intend fool anybody, and what you have done would likely not add much to the car anyhow. I'd imagine, truthfully, everybody there has something that's not totally original. I do think we all try to stay out of rule trouble. If it had been replaced with a 496, that'd be different. Let's keep it fun.

Sorry, I had to laugh a little bit! Donny and a moral delima!!!

Seriously, rdl for PM!! A parking lot kangaroo court will keep cheatin' to a minimium. :spank:

I know that I am finally learning to tune the car and learning how to drive. This season, I changed from Mobil 1 15-50 to Rotella T 30 weight. I picked up about a .1 or .2. This winter, I am going to pull the carb apart and look everything over. Gears are making the car run more consistent in the 60' and I am sure that the motor is looking for more fuel. I have not pulled a valve cover since I put the motor in. That was in spring of '01. When I first went to the track after the motor was broken in, it went 14.20's. Guess I have been sandbagging for 5 years!! :moonu:

    "what do you do"?

    Donny

What do you do? You stop whining, and creating crap to cry about and HAVE FUN. I know the car you're whining about. Hell, quite a few purestockers know the guy and car. Yet your the one crying. He's not breaking any records nor is he bullsh-tting anyone. He's having the time of his life. If everyone was asked to pull a head before the race without notice, the field of 120 cars would be cut to probably less than 60. This thread would'nt be a thread if you could beat him. Would it? By the way, M-21 or not, 4.56 gears have no business with a 350HP 327. Not rocket science. Your car is as fast as it will go. So HAVE FUN with it!

Was unaware of this forum and the fact that a number of Pure Stock participants hang out here. Had to register so I could "clear the air" on the "moral dilema"(sp?) posed by Donny Brass.

I DO fit the "profile" of this "cheater" posed by Donny. I have been a participant at the Pure Stocks for the last 6 years and truly enjoy the event. Where else can you see well over 100 pristine muscle cars going balls to the wall. But, more importantly, the guys and gals you meet truly would pick up a wrench and help you out when you were in a mechanical jam.

During the years of my participation I became fascinated/interested in the solid lifter version of the 327 and since my '5 needed a rebuild I converted the 300 horse hydraulics to solids using the '70 LT1 cam, lifters and factory service replacement intake. In that process, yup! I "cheated" by porting and polishing a set of Dart Iron Eagle, 180 runner heads. Along with those freer flowing heads I also installed a set of Sweet Thunder 3" OD/ 2 1/2" ID chambered side pipes. I've kept the correct Holley List 2818-1/585 cfm. I've been running this combo for the last 3 years (tech just didn't see and pick up on these changes). My best ET and speed this past September was as listed in the Muscle Car Enthusiast rag: 13.695 103.81 with a lot of tire spin.

I'm certain as one of the posters here brought up if tech hooked up a vacuum gauge in their routine there might be a few participants "sweating it".

I digress here as the obvious fix to this moral dilema (sp?) is for me to just bow out of any future Pure Stock events. I do not want Dan and Bob to have to deal with my being outside of the parameters set for this event. They do a bang up job of putting this on. I'm going to miss the particpation here but, you know, I'm not living for this one event. Do enjoy drivin' this '5 the other 11 months of the year...weather permitting.

I've enjoyed the Pure Stocks but I am moving on. As I added air conditioning to this '5 last winter ('bout another 50 lbs in weight) to make this '5 more user friendly for those longer trips, I will continue to make those improvements both performance and creature comfort wise for my enjoyment.

Click on the registry below so you can refresh yourself on my '5.

    It's been good!

    Regards,

    Jim (6T5RUSH)

I don't know what to say.............

someone accuses me of outing 'a car' and now through a series of unfortunate events, a friend gets thrown under the bus. This thread was never about your car, and never about you.

Jim, I have known about your car for 3 years, since we raced and you told me exactly what you were running.......I respected you for being honest about the whole thing. Plus, it was a blast giving Deigo fits doing it.

I guess a few more folks than I have seen the 'changes' under your hood, and they discovered it last Sept. Hell, I still get harrased by MOPAR folks who thought they saw me under the hood of 'my car'.

You have a standing firm offer from me to come over and help swap heads and intake, I will even buy the gaskets and fluids. Hell, I might just break into your garage and do it without your knowledge, I'll just leave greasy fingerprints and a flyer to next years race .................

    I'll call you tomorrow.

First I heard of the Dart heads is after the race when a tech guy told me he seen them.

No one there is a saint, trouble is if a person is allowed to run with something like heads that are not only wrong, but not even OEM it poses a long term problem for the event. Nice guy or not, having fun or not.

I'd recommend swapping on the correct heads and intake. Looking at some of the other Vettes running like Donny's at 13.80, Paul Richards in the 13.40's or even my old Vette at 13.60's the 'ol Darts are not nessesary. :beer

I agree. Trouble is that when you start running better it's automatically assumed by some that you are cheating.
Few people take into account the work and tuning that goes into a good running car. Fact is that some people can get it done thru hard work and lots of track time; not just the days of the events. It takes alot of trial and error which ain't cheap. Especially when you have to pay the prices this stuff goes for now.
But, you are right. It can be done without the aftermarket heads.
    Rant off.

I agree with everything you said, but no one should confuse light hearted humor with real accusations.

Cheat cheat cheat, stroker boy etc. has always been standard fare between racing friends. :beer
