Does anyone run trick spings. Just woundering which of the four offered work best and if anyone as any pictures of your car ride height and /or part numbers of the sping you used would be great .I don't want deal with putting spings in that i have to take out and cut ( my freind with a mustang had to do that ) and I like the ride height of the car and want to keep it the same. Any help would be great

I used them in Big Red....

    Mike,

I used the Morroso (spelling?) trick springs in this car with 70/30 shocks and it launched VERY well, in my opinion. I'd have to dig up my old paperwork to see exactly which set I used but I don't remember having to cut anything....now that I think of it, I believe they were the small block set....

Take a look at the pics and see for yourself....

I'm thinking the 47190's would be good.
At 3750 lbs your car is probably a bit heavy for the 47160's.

I took mine out and installed the stock AC springs and the 60 foots got better!!!:Do No:

Its the truth Can you explain it?? I cant. Since I took them out my car has dropped into the 1.46 's and before the best was 1.52

I have reading up on them more and the 710-47190 spings are
for front end weights of 1680-1750. Now does that mean i drive the car half way on the scale to get the front end weight . and also i thinking the weight of my car should be down to around 3550 to 3600 next year ( get glass bumpers and hood and getting rid of all the little things i doing need in the car anymore)
Kubisch what do you run in the front of your car for spings?

mine are the 47160's......I actually cut some off to get my desired ride height.(I like low cars,The lower the better).
Now that you mention weight reduction I might lean toward the 160's on your car.

Mike, there are alot of things that could go into that, and most not good. Anytime you make a change against proven engineering practice and you get an improvement, you need to investigate further. You may have just uncovered another problem.

You basically "tied-down" the front end and killed some weight transfer. This could be a result of your Instant Center Location, or something more obscure. You may have been wadding up the tires with the Moroso springs causing mild "tire shake". I've been there before.

You may have a problem with shock settings, too.

Another point - when and where did you pick-up 60'? Did you test at the same track, under same or corrected conditions, with NO other changes to the car? Did you use a different tire pressure? Little things matter.

The term "I can't explain it, but it works" shouldn't be in a racer's vocabulary. There is a scientific reason for EVERYTHING that happens in a racecar. I'm not trying to be harsh, just honest.

Just trying to help. Have fun.

PS - I prefer the 47160's unless, like Gary said, you have a heavy nose. More front travel (lower ride height) typically relates to quicker ET's in a stock suspended A-body with a proper set-up. IMHO

Jeff since I have noone in my area that can help me I have been contemplating taking the car to a chassis shop and spend some money to help me get the car better. (without cutting anything up) BUt I may have another plan just to give up on the tanker GS and go into another car altogether. Im really sick of trying to make it run a number. I may not bring it to BG just for that reason. I have another car bought and I am negotiating on a C.M. tube car so I can throw the body off and install a Buick body over it. I have noone to help me around here and even less people around that know anything about Buicks let alone taking a big heavy one in the 9s............

Let me know if you decide to sell that big heavy tanker:Brow:

Does anyone run the trick springs on a primarily street car?My Stage 2 headed GS has poor weight transfer (and thus poor traction) but handles really well with the present setup.I do not want to drive a pogo stick most of the time.Would appreciate hearing your experiences with street use.Thanks-Rod

I ran them around town for years with no problems on my car as an 11 second car. I didnt try to slide thru the corners with them however..............

Gee, Mike I didn't mean to invoke any life changing decision here. You can put your car in the 9's, you just need to work at it a little more. You may just need to contact someone like Dick Miller or Alf Weibe and buy a suspension package and use their set-up and get their advise. You might also read Dave Morgan's "Doorslammers: the chassis book". Remember, our A-bodies are basically 4-links with a few twists. The book may unlock some ideas for you. And don't think a tube chassis car with a 4-link is any easier. I've known people that got "lost" with their chassis, and some never got back. I think any chassis needs a 4 wheel scale session once-in-a-while to keep things in check. You might want to do that now.

    Keep trying. Have fun.

I pretty sure it was about 1/2 of a coil I removed. It's been awhile.
Front tires are Moroso ''7.10x15''.They measure 27'' tall.
I've been kicking around the idea of a 26'' tire but I don't know that I'll ever get around to it.

Right now i have 29.5x9.0 MT mounted on 15x8 prostars with a 51/2 back spacing but i have to use a 1/4 spacer. and have alot of room one the outside of the tire.On the street I use a 15x8 with 41/2 back spce with 275/60 drag radials measure 28x9.0 and are very close to the outside edge but don't need a space plenty of room on the inside. so i'm gona try the 41/2 back space rim do a little cutting , hammering and get a 30x 9.0 hooiser under there they make the tallest narrowest tire i could find with a sectional of 11.8 and the drag radils are 11.6 so they should fit I hope!:Do No:
