Hey Boss 429 is not your average Ford!!! I would be proud to loose to one.

And out of the all the cars which ones can one purchase for a decent price????:Do No: :Do No:

All I know is that I cant get a Boss 429 engine for the price of my car...

So in reality of affordable cars who is the real winner???

Hint: Goes fast with class...:beer ...

What a joke that was.I wasted my time watching that??????You could tell that those dudes were Bowtie and Blue Oval fans.I personally liked the Pontiac for the best graphics. If they wanted to make it fair,Why not make them all verts??Oh well,3rd with a vert that hed a/c isn't that bad.

    69conv Thats a BUICK!?

Many reasons we only got 3rd. A conv is waaaayyy heavier(and the GS was the only 'vert) Some of the car were 4 speed manuals, some were 3 speed autos. I bet if the Stage 1 was a hardtop, 4 speed, we woulda came 1st or a very close secondto the Chevelle(if that was also a 4 speed) So, we could sit here and complian...but hey, considering the variables, I think we did pretty darn good!:) :Brow:

Would you rather be a mopar guy right now?:ball: :Dou: They will complain about the variables too...

I think the tests could have been more fair...like them all having 4 speed manuals and 2 different people driving (a driver can always favour a car, or not know how to drive it)
    I'm shocked that the Boss 429 won:puzzled:

Anyways I've sort of forgotten my point...but I still don't think we have anything to be ashamed about...if you want to get technical the Mustang and AMX aren't even muscle cars! :Smarty:

I think they were pretty fair...You could tell that Peter likes the GS..It would have been nice to see a stronger running Hardtop Stage 1 ..But overall it was better than Dr. Phil!:TU:

Simply amazes me that they would screw up something so simple!!! One convertible, the rest hardtops. Some 4 speeds and others automatics. Some with tall gears and others low. Some with air conditioning and others not equipped. Why not take the extra time and find comparable cars????? 3rd was very good. If not for that stupid burnout comp., it might have been first.

i expected the stage 1 to be last since i thought them guys would never give it respect, everything was good in the stage 1 except the burnout couldve been alot better, give me the car and i'll show them guys what a real burnout is, put the brakes on and floor the gas and dont give up untill you need to. it handled the best that surprised me the most, a heavy car that could make the best corners..wow, that was pretty awesome!:beer :TU:

Some will whine that it handled well because of the fact it was a convertible. I was pleased with it. Most suprising thing to me was the big differences in handling and braking with all the basic same A-Body designs. I would have thought they would have all been very close. Subtle differences must make a big difference.

    gs4u2c Is that a 442?

Every test is subjective. Typically when you drive a car frequently you get to know the quirks of it. I think this was pretty fair in that each car only got 3 chances. The hemi guys of course will blame their loss on the slipping clutch. It was unfair to pick a GS convert with A/C, especially when even a HT is at a weight disadvantage. But by the same token an H/O with manual steering? I think if they had a GS HT in their showroom instead of the convert, the GS would have been a victor. And then everyone would just call it a fluke anyhow. This was a solid 3rd, close in points. At least I can rub this in the nose of my Mopar buddy tomorrow!!!

That show didnt prove anything in my opinon...1. if they would have drove all the cars the same then balance would be in order, for example, that guy said in the quarter he screeched the tires on the first run which was a mistake as he kept on doing it which made an imperfection in the quarter, 2. where is the fairness? the only convertible and it was heavier, some were manuals some autos, come on? what the heck? some had more power options some didnt, come on. 3. the burnout competition, it was pathetic, i could do a bigger burnout in a stock GS 350 vert with all them power options etc. where is the driver at? remove the tumor on your brain and drive the car!:blast:  Enough ranting. when they get the balance and get everything fair on that show then i might watch it, but untill then forget it. it was fun to watch but when it comes down to the point its all messed up. it was cool to see all the tests and everything, but...never mind, i better quit ranting before i make people mad, but i was surprised, the stage 1 did get managable respect, and that is always good to see.

sorry for venting and hijacking the thread, just my .002 worth:TU:

Cody you have to remember this. There were only 1,416 GS455 Convertibles made in 1970, 858 Ford mustang Boss 429's made in 1969, 7,328 1969 Pontiac GTO Judges and the rest i couldnt find. Anyways then out of those small numbers, you have to find ones that are surviving, numbers matching, stock, and fully restored and or original. Now you have very very few left to choose from, here comes the hard part, convince the owner to give you his car so that you can "test" out everything. Now your not left with many choices so give the producers a break on that one.

Also Remember They have to give the cars back to the owners with out saying" umm sire well funny thing, we were doing a HUGE burnout in your rare muscle car and one of the original factory tires burst, aaaaa......so then the car went about 50 feet before we stopped it. Why is your face look so mad?" Also remember these are editors, not people who are qualified to truly test a vehicle. :Smarty: :Smarty: :Smarty:

In my opinion from what i've heard it was a show that was not thought out well at all.

True Rob, I did not really think about it, but seriously. I give respect to all the muscle cars, it's just for the fact that if driven correct then you get correct respect. The stage 1 has better 1/4th times surely, I think I saw somewhere where a well optioned GS with all power options ran mid 13's in the 1/4th at 105 mph, if true, and driven correctly, then stage 1 should've won. I dont know if it is correct but if my memory holds then that's it, and it was stock. It was also a convert as I remember. Nothing wrong with a solid 3 though, but hey, I think all the muscle cars were given good respect:TU:

I'm of the opinion (and feel free to flame away) that credit should be given to the guys (Peter) of LMC to flog true, numbers-matching, and very desirable musclecars. Where, and how they placed is really immaterial. It was just fun to see these musclecar icons run. Peace.

The fact is, this is exactly how it was on the streets back then. Do you think people only raced cars that could be classified as being the same? They took factory stock cars and raced them. Everyone needs to stop whining about "oooh, it was sooo unfair". People have wanted this for years but everyone kept doing the "same class, same cubes, same etc" and now they finally did it!

    Good show!

...And by the way the GS fared pretty well, even if it was heavier and was equipped with air conditioning.

If your going to compete, don't say things that don't make sense.

I say, good show. They raced 7 different muscle cars that were exactly the same as they came from the factory, nothing more, nothing less. They could have just done the burnout contest without points (or had a panel of car guys), but that's the only bad thing about it.

I Emailed that show a long time ago when they had a LS6 on and they said that The LS6 Chevelles were winning all the pure stock races. I told them they better check there facts before they open there mouths. I am not a diehard follower of that type of racing but it seems to me that Buick and Mopar where doing better than the LS6 at the time. Tom
