I never thought about it that way...it was very interesting to watch though other than the burnout comp. imho.

This would be the Summit F.A.S.T. (factory appering stock tire) series. I mentioned this in an erlier post. It has been won by Greg Gessler in his GS.

THANKS TIM FOR POSTING THOSE 1/4 MILE TIMES. I WAS ABOUT 17 YEARS OLD WHEN THOSE CARS WERE FACTORY NEW. I PRACTICALLY SPENT EVERY WEEKEND AT THE DRAG STRIP. ID SAY THOSE TIMES ARE ABOUT RIGHT FOR FACTORY STOCK CARS. I DO WANT TO POINT OUT A 1970 STAGE 1 NON AC AIR WITH 3.64 GEARS WOULD USUALLY TURN MID 13S. THE LS-6 CHEVELLE WAS ANOTHER STRONG RUNNER. IT ALSO CAME FROM THE FACTORY WITH ALUMINUM INTAKE MANIFOLD AND A HOLLEY CARB. ALSO THE STOCK HEMIS WERE TURNING BETTER THAN 14.0S. IF YOUR A FAN OF ALL MUSCLE CARS LIKE I AM ITS NICE TO SEE THESE CARS ARE STILL AROUND AS THEY ARE OVER 30 YEARS OLD. ENJOY THEM WHILE WE STILL CAN.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the show. But, they were deciding "The King Of The Hill". Should have had all kings and not a couple of Princes. Oh, by the way, this is the USA and I have a right to bitch.

    gs4u2c Is that a 442?

Don't be surprised to see this match up annually. I'm sure it got big ratings. And the winner will be different every year...

As I said in another post:

I thought it was comparing apples to oranges. 4 speeds to automatics, hard tops and a convertible.

It was basically done for TV. If anyone takes those results too seriously you're kidding yourselves.

The stock tire thing was a novel idea, but it would be more logical to give them all good rubber to put them on a level field, after all, they did it with the brake pads to make the braking more competetive, so why not the tires to make the quarter mile more competetive?? After all, that's 90% of the reason we were all watching. At least me anyway.

I know purists will say if you change everything then you don't have the cars you started with. Fine, then change what you need to make the cars on a level playing field for the events you are testing, or don't change anything at all.

Like I said, good TV, it's better than having to sit through ricer vision.

One final note, IMHO that GS ran like it was tied to a stump. No pun intended.

I was very impressed with the Boss 429. I love the Hurst Olds too. Sounds mean as hell coming down the quarter.

Everyone is going to have a right to complain about the cars that were run. I really like the idea, but you have to understand that they were trying to run it like the magazines of the day. I think it would have been cool if they used the cars they had, but called in the "tuners" for each marque. Mr. Gessler for Buick, someone like Casey Marks for Oldsmobile, Pete Simpson for Chevy, etc.... and have them put a tune up on each of the cars. Also, like someone mentioned, it would be nice to have a "level" playing field. Believe me, you can never make a comparison truly level. The magazines recieved cars from the "press pool" and some of those cars were ringers.

As far as the individual test, I was suprised at some. As far as the braking goes, did they season those new brake pads before they hammered them. New brakes will not preform well until they have a few heat cycles in them. I was disappointed that they ran the wrong tire on the Hurst/Olds, but if they had the correct size on there, I can let it slide. Everyone thinks that the cars should have gone faster, and you know that they all could. Tuning and driver makes all the difference. The cars should have been run on the bias plys (as they were). Someone mentioned running new tires like T/A's. The new T/A's might have done better in the braking and the cones (as well as the burnout) , but you can actually get off the line quicker with the bias repops than the new radials. Ask any of the quick people running their cars at the Pure Stock Musclecar Drag Races and they will tell you the same.

Here is my idea for the rematchs. Take the fastest of every marque at the fall PSMCDR event and run the battery of test on them with the owners doing the driving. You will definately see quicker times and drivers getting off the line better.:Comp: :Smarty: :3gears:
