It's been some months since I've posted but I figured I'd recap my intro post and also show some of the work I've been doing over these past months. I got her out of a barn and the car had been sitting since 92. The car had already started being restored until the guy passed away and it sat for about 7 years. I bought the car because I've wanted one ever since my dads 71 Skylark Custom was sold in 92 after my parents divorce. Here are the pics of my "Besse" from beginning til current. I'll try to keep this thread current throughout her reconstruction.

Removed the entire dash harness to be replaced with a new one setup for Rally gauges and floor console. I'm not a fan if the dummy lights or column shift.

Also ordered a new engine harness. The old one had been hacked up and butt spliced way too much for my taste. I'd rather play it safe than sorry.

Got some new pics for everyone.

Had my inner fenders powder coated by Rick's Powdercoating here in Memphis. Those guys do awesome work. The driver side is a used one from The Parts place. The passenger is a reproduction from The Parts Place.

I got a console finally. Won it on eBay. I still need to find a good shifter assembly though.

Ive been block sanding on the fenders. Pretty time consuming but I want them to be perfect.

I called TA yesterday and ordered my headers. Getting the full chrome competition style. I wanted these because I'm really wanting a very nice looking and clean engine bay. On another note; Ricks Powdercoating called and told me that my radiator support was ready for pick up!! I can't wait to see it. I'll post up the pics ASAP.

So I got out there tinkering the other night and got the headers on. All the holes on the passenger side needed a tap run through them. Just a little rust to clean up. They fit great. Thank god for the help from my girlfriends dad. Would've been a pain to fish them in and try and start the first bolt from the bottom. The TA headers come with the bolts, gaskets , header extensions and all. Here are the pics of them on my car.

I got my grille, wheels, and center caps from KennyGS72. Great guy to deal with. I put two of the wheels on last night. It changes the whole car. Looks like a Buick is supposed to. I will be getting some wider tires and it'll be lookin mean then. I set the radiator support up and also put the TA cam in last night as well. My girlfriends dad help me with the harder stuff so I have to mention him, as I am super appreciative of his help.

The car is coming along slowly. I'm just in no rush to screw it up.. Lol

I decided to pull the engine and repaint it Buick Red. Just didn't seem right to leave it silver. I'll be getting the cam degreed in tonight. Probably going to need 4 degrees. Got a Comp Cams double roller timing set for it to give me the adjustment on the degree wheel.

With a new cam or rebuild of your engine be sure that you use a motor oil that has zinc additive or buy and add zinc or you will have cam faliure;the modern oils availible now do not have zinc in them.I have had two freinds who wiped out cams because of this and these guys were not building their first motors either; they were just not aware of the recent changes to all automotive oils. Nice work on the car!

Got some more done on her this week. We got the camshaft degreed in which was a nightmare. Mike at TA helped us out though . It turns out my TA310 camshaft was off by 9.5 degrees and after Mikes help we ended up turning the cam gear a full tooth and setting the crank gear at 4 degrees retard to come up with 104.5 degrees for 5.5 degrees advanced. The car should pull hard on the low end like this. The oil pump was not to my standards do it was pulled apart and packed with grease and clearances checked per the GM service manual. I got the headers put back on and they look great with the red paint now. I also got the alternator with an updated fan and the PS pump put back on. The heater and evaporator boxes are installed now along with a new firewall insulation pad. Here are Pics of the progress.

It's been a couple weeks since I posted so I figured I'd give everyone an update. I got the gas tank in and sending unit. The old tank was expanded and sending unit rusted completely off. Apparently someone ballooned the old tank on the car and pushed the trunk floorpan up. This shortened the mounts under the car and I couldn't get the new tank bolted up. A 2x4 and a 5lb sledge flattened the trunk pan back flat again. The tank went in great. I got the fuel pump eccentric and distributor drive gear in also and got the cover back on. The carburetor cam bac from the builder and I got the carb and intake installed too. The throttle cable bracket, thermostat housing, valve covers and radiator cover came back from Ricks Powder Coating. They look great! Last night I trial fitted most of everything, put all the accessories, belts and hoses on. I test fitted the grille and it will need a little work but should be fine. Here are some pics for everyone. don't pay any attention to the 455-4 sticker on the air cleaner. I borrowed it from the 455 I have on the engine stand. ;)

Haha! The orange filter will be gone soon. It's on there the keep foreign stuff out of the engine during storage. I'll put either a Delco or Wix on there before I start it for the first time and break in the camshaft.
