I almost completed the reassembly of my 75 Electra after having repainted it.
It's far from being perfect but at least rust is gone! I won't drive it in winter anymore!

That looks really good. The paint looks like it changes alot with the sun. The paint on my Lincoln does that. I hope I can get my sorry Electra to look that nice someday.

Phil- Did you paint the car yourself? If so, what kind of paint did you use on the rear bumper extensions? They are made out of urethane or something like that and the shop manual recommends a flexible paint that won't crack with a little bending.

In the seventies, the extensions were painted in urethane paint as it was more flexible than the paint that was used for the bodies back then. After it was involved in an accident, this car has been repainted in the late seventies with acrylic enamel at the dealer and the bumper fillers were painted with it too... Over 20 years later, there were cracks in the paint everywhere where it was exposed to the sun and the paint on bumper extensions was also cracked.

I used base coat/clear coat to repaint the car, clear coat is flexible like urethane so it shouldn't crack. I have to say that I didn't completely remove the old paint where it wasn't cracked. I had no intention (and time or money) to make a show car out of this, my main concern was to get rid of the rust that was showing almost everywhere and the scaling paint.

    Phil,
Does it still have the air bag?
Or, did it get deployed in that accident you mentioned?
I knew that some Oldsmobiles where equipped with them back then, I wasn't aware Buick was part of that program too.
