I find it just annoying as heck that some guys post parts for sale at ridiculously, crazy, unrealistic prices….. and then for the next year they keep bumping it for exposure because they are still trying to catch a whale. I would think they would get a clue after just a couple of weeks but no, do they think it’s because nobody needs it or what? Does it never occurred to them that it’s the price is the reason it don’t sell? GREED IS UGLY, and makes me not want to buy or sell anything to them ever due to this behavior.
I can’t be the only one here that has these thought am I?

Most of the time I price things to sell.

I strive NOT to be that guy. I don't sell a lot and I think I ask fair prices and always ship the actual cost. I'll bump a post once, maybe twice but generally let to fall off the front page if it hasn't at least received any interest.

    It depends.
Sometimes, the part is truly expensive and rare. Look at the fully restored 67 console for sale around $2000. I already paid to have all my chrome re-done, or I would have been real interested.
It's not just price, sometimes it is just out of the hobbyist price range sadly.
Heck I'm trying to give away a 67 inner fender and nobody is interested, at this time.

    You have an interesting post.
I'm relatively new to the forum, will be 3 years in May.

My problem is, I have no clue what I should pay for Buick parts, either OEM or NOS.
I have the same problem when I sale original parts from my 1970 Buick GS Skylark.

Example, i'am currently looking for a Buick factory rear spoiler, 70, 71 or 72.
I've been told I can expect to pay somewhere between $800 to $1200 for a good condition spoiler. That doesn't take in that I will have to recondition and paint match color the spoiler to a new appearing condition.

Reason i'am seeking a factory spoiler is because I have bought 3 aftermarket spoilers, all turned out to be garbage. I've spent a lot of money on aftermarket junk.

My delima, NOT knowing if I'm paying too much. Not only for a factory spoiler, but for anything that's for sale in the Buick line of parts.

How is one to know what is a FAIR PRICE???? VET

Max Damage I'm working on it!

If the price is too high don't buy it, problem solved.

Well, I guess if you have deep $$$ pockets, no big deal.
But NOT all of us retired guys have that option.
When I was working, I could get OT almost anytime, that's what I did if I wanted to buy something for my hobby, that's not doable anymore. :(

Still doesn't answer my question when I want to sell car parts. VET

    VET,
experience and education, watch the parts section and see what sells and what don’t, look at the dates of some of the posts, some been 1-2 years trying to find a fish, that’s a huge clue that it’s way way way too high. There’s fair and there’s trying to fund a drug and hooker habit!

Question, are you talking about NOS parts for sale or parts in general?

Both, it happens constantly. I could give glaring examples, but that would be against the rules and I don’t want to hear the crying , or make enemies.

Also. some of these "high-priced" parts would sell for the same if not more elsewhere; at least the sellers are giving v8buick members first dibs.

I get prices are high on certain things specially NOS but part of the problem is there’s nobody here on the board looking for parts anymore. It’s hard to sell just cheap common parts, it comes to the point where it’s not even worth bothering The time you have wrapped up in shipping materials boxes, tape get a quote an shippings is a out of control.

Sometimes you sell things cheap to move them quick. Sometimes you have a unique part that you don’t need to sell but you would for a price. That’s my situation as a person who doesn’t sell parts as part of my expected income. If it’s overpriced it won’t sell. I’ve realized that with several parts I’ve listed. I adjust the price if I want it to sell faster.

And that Sir is the reasonable approach.

    Great advise, will do.
    Thank you very much.
Unfortunately, my Buick has a budget, just like the rest of my expenses.
    Electricity, heat & A/C.
    Water.
    Home & Auto Ins.
    Health Ins, Dental & Eye.
    Food.
    Clothes & Shoes.
Cost to buy a decent car
    Cost to maintain my cars.
    Cost to maintain my house.
    We all have these expenses,
I just want to buy and sell Buick items at a fair price.
Honestly for me is the best policy. VET
