According to partsvoice.com a place called Dan's obsolete parts may have some of the superceded number. The listing may be old but who knows, he may still have some.

    ST DAN'S OBSOLETE GM PARTS
    CHINOOK,MT 800-472-4402 31-AUG-01 1923 mile

Seem to recall buying stuff from him years ago and he was decent to deal with at the time.
    Good Luck,

I was going to go with the 212, but I decided on a 288-94H. I think that's the one

    ROFLMAO

    don't I know it...

I once had to argue with the partsman at the local Buick/Olds dealer that there was such a thing as Riviera GS. He knew the Riviera was a Buick, but agrued the GS option was from Oldsmobile... :Dou:

I called Dal for you - Not only is that part NLA, but you're SOL - The part went NLA in 1994 - I asked, well, that doens't mean there aren't any out there, just not being manufactured or stocked ?? So .....he checked available stock throughout US / Canada / Mexico / and Europe .... None available in the GM Network. Doesn't mean there isn't one somewheres....just not in the GM database.

    He said try TRW .....

    Sorry Bud.....

    Chris,
If I was you, I'd be seriously looking into the above option. If you can find a lifter that is a little bigger, you can have it machined down.

    thanks, all

I am not even surprised that I have one of these oddball blocks, that's just par for the course for me. Everything is twice as hard and takes twice as long :puzzled:

I might fog the motor, drop it back in, and look for this part over the winter as the car is getting put away anyhow.

    I'll try TRW.

Does anyone know the dimensions for this Ford small block lifter or what the part #is? A technical drawing would be ideal

I wonder how many Buick guys have these blocks and don't even know it?

Dal said it was not uncommon, and not just for lifter bores either !! he said it was not uncommon to put an oversized piston into a motor = anywhere from .005 to .030

    Guys:

I don't know any specifics, but, I know that pro-stock guys will bush the lifter bores to get better alignment with the cam. Can't we find someone to bush one lifter bore?

I had thought of that, actually, but the car is a daily driver that hasn't moved in over a month, it's still registered, I'm still paying insurance on it, it's outside in the elements, the engine is in an unheated dirty garage chock full of stuff, and there's no time, or place, to disassemble the engine, have it bushed, and then re-assemble it. It's gonna snow tomorrow. I simply cannot disassemble the engine and send the block out to be machined and bushed, and there isn't any time to do it...I do not have the luxury of a place to work that's even heated. I can't take the block down to nothing now. I just can't, that's not an option. I don't even own the garage the car is parked in front of. My Dad needs to get his car back in his own driveway and there's no way this car takes precedence over my family. It cannot sit there for much longer, period. Either the correct part goes in it, and quick, or the car goes to winter storage without the engine :Do No: I have no other choices

All (non-oversized) GM lifters are 0.842" diameter. The next size up is the Ford one which is 0.875" .

    Chris,

Try getting Mike Phillips of AM&P on the phone. They have a lot of experience with brand X race engines as well as Buicks. I would think he could help you out or at least steer you down the right road. I think the way to go is to use the Ford lifter and have it turned down or hone out the bore to fit. You may have to run a custom push rod in that hole, just check it to be sure. Not the end of the world here, just do it right.

My engine guy said he could send a Ford lifter out to his crank grinder, prolly take 1-2 days. He was also wondering if the little clip would be a problem, has anyone turned one down before so Chris knows this will work? :Do No:

He also said you could try calling Crane, since they make most parts for the other guys, but you will probably be on hold for a LONG time.

Yeah, I was on hold a medium-long time, and gave up

I've been trying to spec out a ford SB lifter, but to no avail

I was wondering about the clip, and so on...especially about the cup height

Any first hand experience in making a non-GM lifter work in this situation is appreciated.

Also, if I need a custom pushrod...I don't know where to start. Needing an entire custom valvetrain is not something I ever planned on

I don't think you even have the time to wait for a response, because it probably hasn't yet been tried. :Do No: It was hard enough just to find anyone that has seen a block with the dreaded "O" stamping. :(

I'm sure a special length pushrod will be required, hopefully the TA adjustable will do, but I think you will have to cross that road once you have a lifter in hand. :pp

This is probably nuts, but could you get away with using a set of roller lifters for just that one cylinder, or would it be far toooo sloppy? :Do No:

Crane says I have two options

    Bush it

    throw the block away

Spoken like a true bunch of problem solvers, Crane

    Chris,

There's a place called Northwestern Auto Supply that has an extensive inventory of obsolete and hard-to-find mechanical parts. They were able to supply me with a complete set of brand new TRW valves for my '63 Pontiac and also a set of brand new TRW Stage 1 exhaust valves for my present project.

I submitted a web inquiry to them for 1 pc of Grp. 0.459 P/N 5233005 .010" oversize lifter. As soon as I hear from them I'll let you know, but it might take a day or two, especially with the weekend coming up.

If you want to call them their toll-free number is 800-704-1078.
    Their regular number is 616-241-5611.

    Their web sight is:

    Thanks Larry :TU:

    Every little bit helps

If I can't find the GM part, I'm going to buy two Ford small block lifters...and cut one in half. I will then measure wall thickness, etc, and cut one of my old GM stock lifters in half, and measure the wall thickness. Heck I may as well do that anyway, it's good info to have if this is a problem for somebody else

    I missed this:

So It HAS BEEN DONE Chris, get the Ford lifter turned down! You really have no other options at this point. Ask Jim what pushrod he used. :TU:
