450 HP. I wonder how much this will cost - AND how much the insurance companies will get to insure it. Funny how we now have a second wave of horsepower wars, but almost none cares! GTO at 400 HP, New Vettes getting 500 HP, etc. GTO's aren't selling all that well. The LS1 F Bodies hauled butt, but didn't sell well either. Is the market gone? Do you care? I'll take my old Skylark! http://autos.msn.com/as/minishow/article.aspx?contentID=4023097&s=NewYork2005&src=minishow
Maybe part of the problem is 350 HP doesn't buy what it used to. A couple of weeks ago there was a big musclecar race at the local 1/8 mile track. There were a couple of last year's GTO's there. One was dialed in at 8.70 and the other at 9.10. Most of the other stock newer cars weren't running what the rags say.
if any previous info is correct.. you may be surprised to see that that car is probably going to be pushing a lot more than 450hp. For pics... http://www.rage-board.com/files/gt500/ Dyno info on the last Cobra http://www.dynoperformance.com/article_details.php?ID=28 estimated Flywheel HP: 431 @ 5950 rpms [assuming 16 % drivetrain loss] I'd have to say... if this one is 450hp... expect more than they're saying
I am not a Ford person but leaving work today I got to see a new Shelby and I think that its the best bodystyle in 30 years one sweet ride should be fast???
a dealer was getting gas in it I did not ask him about it but it had the Shelby decals on it maybe they added them either way it looked good
$$$ Cars during the original horsepower wars were affordable to just about anyone. I can't however go out and plunk down 35k (or get financing) to get one of these new horsepower war cars. The f-body died because it was a fast car for young people and they started raising the price and marketing it for older people who may have had more say but lacked the sheer numbers needed.
bssst wrong. they already make small numbers of these big hp cars. typically the buyers of these cars won't care about the gas issue, they're buying it because it's a toy for them. corvette owners are notorious for this, they'll upgrade each time a new generation comes out, cobra owners as well. they're usually people who are die hard fans that continue to enjoy the sheer power of these cars.. kinda like us but with a lot more disposable income .. gas is a minor issue in this case.
That ain't how it is around here. One guy stopped driving his Ferrari 'cause he didn't want to pay $1.80. note;cheapest gas in Elberton, $1.97 a/o yesterday
The GT 500 Returns What a sweet ride!!! GM are you taken notes!!! Make mine white with two blue racing stripes :3gears: :TU: AL.
i paid $2.30 for premium in my Regal GS just yesterday. It's not THAT bad.. though when i started driving it was like 93 cents for regular... :-/
Thanks " marketing it for older people " Thanks mechacode for reminding me! Seriously though with 3 Gran Sports and a GN in the barn my WS6 6 speed TA is a hole bunch of fun to drive. Even with regular gas at $2.27 a gallon tonight, didn't look at the price for the good stuff, I cant wait for some rain to wash the salt off the roads so I can get the TA out. Take Care All & Safe Motoring
When was the last time you saw an 18 year old go out and plunk down 30+k for a f-body? Pricing is advertising and with that kind of price, you're only marketing to older people.
