Jim . I'm not taking any of this the wrong way. I'm happy that you're taking the time to help me. I just think it odd that the paint would flake off in a straight line across the top. If it was painted from the Flint line , why wouldn't it flake off totally ? Any opinion about the blue paint in the lower right corner ? I REALLY appreciate your opinion. :beer

Slightly on the topic of factory screw-ups. Worst workmanship I've ever seen get past everybody on the line was my father's 62 Wildcat . Purchased new , May 62 ( still has it ) with the air cleaner "horn" notch 180 degrees off. If your not familiar with it, the upper radiator hose was so close to the air horn that it was notched to fit around it. His was welded on upside down so the notch faced up and the horn was resting it's sharp steel edge on the hose. He put it in the attic and got one from a junkyard right away . I'll post a pic in the future if I think of it. In this instance , you can't leave it original or it will cut the hose. Just something unique.

My consolette 4-spd car never had a lower boot installed from the factory- made for some hot legs!

    Wow, I didn't expect this much discussion...:eek2:
The first year I put my car in the show field in BG after the restoration someone commented to me on what a nice "survivor" I had. Best compliment I ever could have gotten!
I'm certainly not expecting anyone to agree with me, much less change anyone's mind (or spend their money for them.) I know my opionin is kinda "out there;" coming from a guy whose favorite Buick on the planet is Jim Ramsey's green car... :3gears:

If I wanted to truly recreate all factory defects on my particular car, that would include a fingerprint in the front right pinstripe.

My guess is the line worker, after touching the stripe, said "Nope, not dried yet!".

How about a big nasty Factory paint run on the firewall of our GSX.

Now let's first have a show of hands for all who say they would have left or replicated the defect in Ken's X and our X.

Now let's have a show of hands of all who have actually restored a GS to a concours level that have actually left or replicated all defects like these on their cars.

Hmmm I bet the latter number is ZERO !!!!

This is a different issue than appreciating and leaving as is a pristine survivor car with defects so let's not confuse the two.
