James and any other member that can assist with this process please reply or PM me. Is there a thread or video that discusse's the process? I need atleast a drivers door panel for my 72 Suncoupe. White, woodgrain, black carpet. Area and panel at woodgrain and carpet is in bad shape. I've found some replacement panels but they are Saddle or brown in color. Just wondering if it's worth it to go thru the process of dyeing those panels.

    Thanks,
    Todd

Todd, your 72 is just plain white, not pearl. Regular Sem white should do it for you.

Here's a video detailing the basic process of changing the color on a door panel (once you get past the silliness at the beginning). They use SEM products, and I have experienced good results with that brand. Also, keep in mind that SEM offers at least 5 (five) different shades of white in their automotive line of Color Coat aerosols (please see the color chart I posted earlier in this thread). You may need to do some experimentation to see what matches your shade of white most closely.

Here's an update on my progress in locating a good "Pearl" match for my PUI panels. The process described by Chris and exhibited by James' photos earlier in this thread has also proved successful for me. My refinished pieces look very similar to the "Pearl" in James' Buick. If you need this color, this process may help you as well. Thanks again, guys!

This photo may help illustrate my point a bit. Here's a refinished piece of my 1970 plastic trim placed against a rear armrest covered in PUI's "Pearl." The color is tough to appreciate in a photo, but the Ames product really helps the SEM Super White work in this combo. You can see the glow of the Pearl topcoat here, to some extent.

Will it look ok if white is used over saddle or brown colored panels? Is there a primer that could cover then use white dye? I can get all 4 panels, the arm rest(rear), glove box cover, ash tray and some other pieces for $175 plus shipping or $100 for just front door panels. Panels are good looking I'd almost hate to change color on them

Yes, you can cover saddle or brown with the SEM white. You need to be careful though and spray light but "wet" coats. If you spray too heavy/thick coats, the grain in the vinyl will fill in with paint and look too smooth.
