I need to call upon the powers of the boat owners :Brow:

Im searching for window chromes for my car and after looking at a few, i need to make sure my window is still in the stock shape.

The car is a Wildcat Custom Vinyl Top (now HT).

If you would, i would like to request some pictures of the top corners of the rear window.

All the cars i have seen (Electra, LEsabre, although i havent seen a wildcat) has square moldings, so i assume a square window, my corners are rounded and im hoping it wasnt filled.

Thanks for the pictures in advance :TU:

    what year is that lesabre?

Im trying to see if the back windows are shaped differently between wildcats and lesabre/electras.

isnt your avatar of a wildcat?

how about a closup of that back window :Brow:

Edit: That wouldnt help seeing your Wildcat is a vert :Dou:

Anyone on here able to take a quick picture of their 69 wildcat rear windows?

    Thanks

I think four doors had curved rear window trim, two doors were pretty much squared. What body style is yours? If your looking for curved, then I'm guessing you have a four door. Is it a hardtop or sedan? They are different too.

It is a 2 door, vinyl top, wildcat custom.

My back window has rounded tops on it though, thats what im trying to check for.

Any pictures of that area of a 2 door wildcat HT?

HMMM, now you got me wondering if vinyl roof cars are different, cause that 70 in the pic does not have rounded corners.

one of those links has the tops rounded, one doesnt :Dou:

but those are also both 4 door, which someone said were all rounded and different than 2 door? :Do No:

someone on here that has a 69 wildcat vinyl top or hard top needs to take a picture of their unaltered back window, so we can put this mystery to rest :TU:

i'll get a few pics of my 2 door 69 HT cat for you tomorrow, I can't find my cord for connecting my camera to computor but i'll figure something out. So you are looking pics of the back window?

    Yes. Specifically the upper corners.

Mine (no chrome) is slightly rounded, and i cant tell if its stock or filler (almost seems like filler, but the window is cut (roughly) to the shape).

    Thanks a bunch :TU:

ok, I took these earlier today, if you need a different area let me know and I can take some more pics. I've only owned the car for a month or so, but the previous owner said the top was replaced a few years ago and its not a correct top, but this should give you some ideas what your looking for.

From those pictures, i guess its safe to say this is filler? :Dou:

Anyone know of a way to custom make window chrome?

Yyyyup. That filler looks like it would actually have to come out in order to get the window out...brings a new meaning to the phrase "cutting corners". Looks like the rust that was "repaired" is on its way back, too.

Looks like someone decided to eliminate your window chrome. You may be able to just chip it out, but you may also find some rust issues under there if you do. It's one of those should I or shouldn't I situations, cos it might turn into a major project/repair. That's why my car is just sitting now instead of being driven...a little too much of "oh, I might as well fix that while I'm at it."

that picture doesnt show it very well, but the window is actually clear of the filler area.

But the cut is horribly rough.

Still has the clips for the chrome in it.

Anyone have a picture of what it should look like without chrome?

It used to be a vinyl top, so it is possible that it was a rust issue.

Any way to custom make some chrome trim? :Brow:

Steven, one may never know why things are the way they are unless you can actually talk to the guy that did it.
My old wildcat back in the mid 70's had issues with the vinyl top trim keeping water out of the trunk and the rear window package tray area also...it drove me nuts trying to figure how the water was getting in. The car i have now also has serious rusty areas under the vinyl top. It appears the vinyl top may actually wick moisture up and under itself leading to serious long term problems.
Curiousity won't kill the Cat so.... you may as well start removing the body filler and see whats going on under the putty. I think it'd be easier to put body filler back in than make custom trim....just my 2 bits..Good luck, Gordon

but i would much rather tru the custom trim first

maybe go to the junkyard and find some nice long chrome pieces...

i dont know who did it, and the previous owner is long gone.

maybe (hopefully) he did it because he wanted a sportier rounded corner look?

im also not so good at bondo :blast:

ill let it rest for awhile. Maybe down the road...

Thanks for the help and pictures :TU:

sounds good, these things can be very frustrating to try sort all the glitches out, this is the time of year to be enjoying your ride. As long as you feel good about your car, thats all that matters, in the mean time try buddying up with a body man who's willing to help with your project. Offering to buy the materials and the beer may get the job done sooner than you think.. Gord
