    Time for a new clutch.
Gotta drop the trans. Heck! Let's just pull the engine.
The Pure Stock Drags are in 4-1/2 weeks, we got time.
Plus, I can show y'all how stock it is!

BIG THANKS TO MY FRIEND GLENN Z. for help on this project.

    Project goals:
    New clutch
Replace worn out parts in clutch linkage
    New Hurst Competition/Plus shifter
Pull heads and get a valve job (some valve guides leak oil)
Get exhaust manifolds repaired and coated
    New timing chain
    Re-gasket the engine

    Glad we did this now.
We found evidence that the head gasket was about to fail on cylinder #3.

Been a good engine to me the last several years.
Been pounding at the drag strip several times a summer for about the last 6 years.
Engine was put together by the previous owner 12 years ago. I have owned it for 10 years.
First time I have had the engine out of the car and had the heads off.

intake port comparison: Now you know why Ford makes a great NASCAR engine. Big ports.

I have not pulled the oil pan, water pump, and timing cover off yet.
Will take pictures and post that as well, when we get there.

John Brown On permanant vacation !!

The stocker they get, the faster they go. Those heads could probably use a little cc job as long as you're in there. :Brow:

wow, yeah, I think it was time. So welding up that exhaust manifold or replacing it (I don't know how hard it is to get CJ/SCJ parts) ?

btw, I was over at Munson's place last night. He says the car still runs :Brow:

I'm gonna try to get it welded up.
Good ones start out at around 400 a set.
Not the hardest to find, but not the easiest either.
They come up from time to time.

    nice engine!
A buddy of mine has a '79 Bronco that a previous owner swapped in a 429 or 460 into lots of fun to drive. :)

Mannnnn, if I tried the lightbulb trick with my 340's heads, I would be using a NIGHT LITE bulb......... ~sigh~

Chris see if Jack can weld up those manifolds when you drop off the heads!!!

If you listen close, you can hear the trans leaking

Will liberty be able to get the trans back to you in time for the race? Are you dealing with Paul?

Yes and Yes. I was pretty clear with Paul. I watched him write down on the work order that I needed it by the first week of September.
I'm a return customer and had a good experience with Paul the first time when he fixed up my other Toploader.

I know the outer bolts on the three center main caps are not stock, but I did not build this engine.
Minor infraction. Everything else is checking out to be good so far.
