"Duane,on The Chart Sw Refers To 434337 Which If Im Correct Is Hardtop Coupe, below That Says 43437 /67 And That Tag Is "ss" 67 Being Convertible.am I Reading This Correctly?" I don't know I was doing this from memory, if you want me to check out the chart it will have to wait until I get home. Duane
XS as I recall is embossed in the back of the passenger side tank and IA on the smaller tank on the driver's side.
Duane or anyone with the info I have a 72 stage 1 th400 with A/C no HD cooling my tag is SJ is that correct
ok heres where it gets sticky:in 71 (Y40)heavy duty cooling from what i gather from the assembly manual consisted of1)thermo vac switch2)heavy duty fan clutch(k02)3)heavy duty radiator(v03)4)55 amp alternator(k77).....however it was not available with the stage 1 engine or air conditioning.....now my first question is why not?also the heavy duty radiator(v03) listed in the package(y40) is available with a/c but not stage 1....????huh........assembly manual doesnt appear to list different rad. tanks just overall code, now on page 6-7.3 it shows a diagram for vac tube routing showing a thermo vac switch and lists for all 455,s.if you notice the diagrams for non hd cooling did not have this three port switch.also 350-2v,350-4v and 455 all had different part numbers for these switches, whats the difference?i understand how they work so why the different part numbers?did each engine create different vacuum?in the radiator code diagram it shows (with L75(stage 1)&Y41(assuming hd cooling) and then gives a without.but i thought stage 1,s couldnt get hd cooling......i couldnt find the codeY41 but Y40 is hd cooling, maybye a misprint?.....just trying to make sense of this.....anyone?
Looks like in 70 the SW was the radiator all models and all engine, trans with and without A/C and HD cool SJ for auto and manual with A/C and NNO HD cool except GSX so if you have a GSX with A/C its a SW without A/C its a SJ Now what about a 72
Still have the original harrison radiator in my car and the tags intact. On tag SW (larger letters). Also has IA, XS (smaller letters) and a two digit #. Car is a stage 1 w/air.
dreeesh asks, "what would the radiator tag be for a 71 stage 1 convertible with ac/ hd cooling and auto trans?" The short answer is you should have the thick 3-core radiator. This would have the "SW" tag and the "XS" & "IA" tanks. Now for the long answer, the first thing you need to do is stop overthinking everything. The Stage 1 option was UPC code "WE5" and this code encompassed the following two codes; "L75" (Hi-perf 455) "Y43" (Specific related parts) The "Y43" parts included heavy duty cooling, AC style pulleys, etc, so that is why you could not order heavy duty cooling for a Stage 1 equipped car because it already came with it. Now onto page 11-4.3; As you read down the chart from the top (for the 43437/67) models, the first row that meets your specific car options is the column for the SW rad. At the far right it reads; 43437 with L75 & Y41 If you look at the drawing you can see they tried to keep the chart small so they squeezed as much info into it as possible. If the chart was bigger (& to make everything crystal clear) they would have said, 43437 67 with L75 &/or Y41 Now "L75" (Hi-perf 455) "Y41" (GSX Striping) So if you look at the chart and your 43437/67 car came with either a Stage 1 engine, heavy duty cooling, or was a GSX it would have had the "SW" radiator. Now I know this worked for the Big Block GSX's, but I had a 71 small block GSX I bought from the original owner and it came with a date coded correct "SB" radiator, so the "SW" rads may not have come on the small block GSX's. Duane
John asks, "Duane or anyone with the info I have a 72 stage 1 th400 with A/C no HD cooling my tag is SJ is that correct" Nope, according to the chart your tag should read "CF". An "SJ" tag would probably be from a 70-71 radiator. Those radiators have the rad cap parallel to the ground while yours has the cap on an angle. Duane PS. Don't you have a 72 assembly manual?
DUANE!!!!!....ONCE AGAIN YOU BRING LIGHT TO OUR CLOUDED MINDS....YOU SHOULD GET PAID!!!!!....LOL....MAYBYE IT WOULD BE EASIER FOR ME TO JUMP IN MY TIME MACHINE BACK TO 1971 AND JUST BUY THE CAR NEW.....AWW WELL A GUY CAN DREAM CANT HE?:gp:
Your damn right I should get paid. You want me to tell you where to send the check? Duane PS. Once you find your rad get me one. I still need one for my 71 GSX.
Well no I don't have a 72 assembly manual I have been looking for an original because the reprints are junk. If you know of one for purchase/rent I would be very interested. So I have a SJ with CF and IA tanks . If memory serves me it was a 350 auto with air. Beautifully restored too with a new core. So far I have had no luck finding the right one.
John, The 72 style rads are much easier to find. You can probably buy a new one with the correct outward appearance and put a tag on it. Duane
Mike, As far as payment, you would be surprised at the number of people that have helped me out with parts over the years. I give help/favors to people and they give them back to me. That's how I like to see it work. Duane
