Exactly Duane! Remember meeting me at Franklin Mint show with the G. brothers, after we met at B.G. way back when!

Hey Duane, when Was The Change Over From The Straight Up And Down Rad Cap To The Angle One For 71-72 Cars?

There may have been some really really late 71's with angled fillernecks.
Most 71's then had streight filler necks. All 72's were angled. I think this is correct. Anyone else ?

I don't know about that, it's just as likely that the very very early 72 cars ended up with the leftover 71 style flat filler necks. (You know GM was not going to throw away good radiators, especially when the same cap fits both.)

The 72 book shows they started working on the drawing on 4/11/71 but it also states the drawing was first used for the 72 model year cars. (You often see the drawings being developed months before the parts are introduced to the assembly plants, especially at the model year introduction time.)

All the application codes were changed between 71/72 so I would bet the change took place real close to the model year change over.

The only way to see when it actually took place would be to get enough original date coded pieces together and see.

Of course that would mean everyone would have to buy one of my "Date Code Books", but that would be a small price to pay to gather such knowledge, don't ya think.

The other thing you would need to do is take the different assembly plants into consideration. Different plants got parts at different times.

PS. Don't you guys ever get tired of asking questions? What's going to happen if I take a couple of months off.

Duane you might make some extra money with the sale of your book. I have it and its helped ne greatly with date codes and such. What we are truely missing is a clear copy of a assembly manual. I was lucky to have someone that could assist me with the drive shaft markings for my Suncoupe but have had real problems finding a good copy of a assembly manual for a 72. The 70 I have is only margially readable so I neglected to purchase one for the 72. For my front suspension I am using the sticky that was started with sopme imput from experts like you and Dave Kliner.
So Duane maek sure you have a sticker set for my 72 Stage 1 with Auto and A/C I'll be ordering one asap.

Got a private message asking tag location so will post pics here if anyone else is interested. From top of tag to bottom of trans line (top radiator) is a hair under 7 inches.

Judging by your original looking trans cooler lines it looks like you have a pretty good standard to go by. Are the two digits onn tagba 69 or maybe 70 or 71? it would be great to know what is original. Also what is build date on your 71? Thanks

Thanks Blue, That is what I thought. My friend is looking for a tag for me. Any other pictures of your engine would be great. Love to see originals.
