Has anyone ever been able to figure out a ryme or reason to front and rear windshield reveal molding clips? Taking mine apart I found two different types on my front and another type on the rear. The car has been through one repaint and at least two vinyl tops. Checking a GM parts book shows different types from from and rear and also shows two part number in the front fro a 71 2 door skylark or GS. One type in the front says for top and corners and the other it does not mention where they go. I found those long ones on the sides but I think they are not correct. There even appears to be different number between 70 and 71. And different between hard and vinyl tops. If picture comes up look at all the different types I have. Anyone know what is correct?:Do No:

judging by what I found on the car the clowns that worked on it did not care what they put back on. As far as compairing the GM numbers with the pictures in AMK catalog part #8736591 belongs on the rear windshield of a vinyl roof 71 and maybe the sides of the front windshield?. The clip in the picture at the far right looks like that one. The clip 2nd from the left looks like part #8717859 which GM parts book says belongs on front tops and corners..... The long clip was on the sides of the front on my car but according to GM parts book this is part #8736585 and is for big cars. I am most concerned with having trim fit correctly.

When I took my 71 GS-350 apart, the rear window had the style on it second from the right. It was an original non vinyl top car though.

I will look up the clips in my Buick parts book tonight and let you know what i find. If you have the correct GM number, you can cross it over right?

Jason, I think I should be able to cross over. I have GM book as well but very confusing. My parts book says the ones you have were for big cars. And book says vinyl roof are different clips. My frined GSX has the same ones as you. I had those ones you have on my vynyl top car but only on the front sides. Top and rear is different.

the clip size is in referance to where the mldg will sit when fastened in referance to the mounting point or stud. You want to look at the edge of the mldg that the clip holds the depth of that edge will help you decide which clip will give you the flush look and feel of the mldg to body.

Steve, thanks for those numbers. Robert, that is what I was thinking. Some of my moldings I thought sat too deep and looked bent. I am thinking some clown put the wrong ones on when they replaced the top.

Looks like the long red clips 8736586 are still available from GM. GM parts direct sells for $1.11 each. I am getting the picture now after seeing friends GSX that these are correct for non vinyl roof and I may need 8736586 which is not available from GM but AMK lists a clip by that GM part number. May have to go with them since they reference the GM number.

I've been down this road over and over again. I am still where I was when I started. Nowhere. There are probably a dozen different kinds at least that will work and lots more that won't. Plus, all the places that sell them I don't think are sure they are even right even if they are advertising it's for our cars.

I would think for any A body 68-72 you could use the same ones. Also, if the rear window has been removed, if they use too think a bead of urethane, the clips, even if they are correct, won't work because they won't be able to reach the molding because the window will be too far out of the channel. I ran into this problem. Who the hell woulda thunk?

This number seems to stick out in my book-

    8736585

Its listed as 69-72 30-4000 exc conv- w/s reveal moulding

its also listed for the rear window for all 68-72

The book is quite confusing. There must be 4 pages of clips. And if you listed all the clips for the 70-72s, you would probably have 3/4 of a page alone

Good point, what are the other A body guys using? Someone should hit the Chevelle and Pontiac parts sites for some research

The best I can figure for a vinyl roof car in the GM parts book is 8717859. www.amkproducts.com pictures this clip. It appears taller than the others so may solve the extra thickness with the top and maybe also the problem Ken mentions. I had the problem of some of the trim looking like it was in too far and a bit distorted. I want all my ducks in a row way before assembly as I know there will be enough surprizes and things I forgot.

AMK also list them "crest of rounded catch" or "sharp catch"?

Jason that number you show(GM # in AMK catalog) looks like the red clips in your picture. I think they are correct for a non vinyl top. I saw them on friends GSX.

These two numbers listed for our cars as for "soft top" are still available from GM 8717859 and 8736591. I am going to order a bunch of each.
