Re: Re: Try it.. That's right, water transfers heat better than anti freeze. The ultimate is 100% water with a bottle of water wetter. Running more than 50% antifreeze will actually overheat some engines. The less you run the better. Antifreeze is good for preventing freeze up in the winter, and corrosion protection. Water wetter will provide the corrosion protection, and lower the surface tension of the water, which lets it transfer heat even better.
I guess I would replace the radiator cap in case the spring was bad. Then replace the 5 blade fan with a new 7 blade clutch fan. Then move to the water pump and 4 core radiator. Is it possible that you have a vapor lock somewhere in the system? I would not run just water though. The antifreeze does help prevent corrosion and it lubes the system. I wish you luck and hope ya get her figured out.
Cool... I figured it was more of a radiator issue, than a pump issue since it wasn't cooling gooing down the road.. Glad you got it fixed up.
Have You run a compression check and/or put a sniffer on the rad to see if exaust gas is getting into the cooling system? I am always suspicious of clutch fan drives also. Hope this helps, I hate a car running hot it can drive a man crazy. Doc
yea i had done a compr.check all cylinders checked fine,i never checked for exhaust gases in the coolant but u can usually smell the coolant smelling kinda funky but this smells normal, the other thing that might`ve contributed was that the car has a Cali.smog pump on it. Thanks
