    And I'm getting really psyched!

Saturday is the day the motor comes out of my car! The weather is looking like sunny and in the mid 30's. Nothing a good sized kerosene heater can't handle in the garage. At least we won't be getting a foot of snow like last saturday. :Dou:

Yardley will be coming up Friday night. I've got a room for him all set to go. I even stripped nasty old wallpaper and painted a bathroom he'll be using in preparation for his arrival. My wife was laughing at me about that one. He'll be bringing with him a bunch of stuff we'll need to get the job done. He's even planning to stay until Sunday so we can take engine compartment parts off to bring back with him for painting. What a guy to give up his weekend to help me! And to offer to help detail parts over the winter!!!

I already borrowed an engine hoist from Tom Telesco (Teleriv on the board) and he'll be by Saturday afternoon after he gets out of work to help. For those of you that don't know, tom owns a shop that works on all sorts of classic cars. I love going to visit hima s you never know what classic you'll see on the lift. he really know his stuff. Thanks Tom!

Larry H will be coming by too. Thanks Larry! Everybody know Larry70GS from this board and knows just how deep his knowledge is on Buicks. Larry, PM me your number and I'll call you to talk about the plan.

So, that means two of the guys featured in the recent Build Sheet will be here. Pretty cool! :bglasses:

It's looking right now like there'll be four of us, with three that actually know what they're doing and know an awful lot about these cars (myself being the fourth). I've laid in a supply of ziplock bags for parts and will have digital cameras and one or two video cameras as well to record everything. My dad will probably be coming over to help with pictures. My plan is for the engine compartment and engine to look factory original and new when this is done. I spent some time talking to Duane too about this and I'm sure I'll have a million questions for him before this is all done.

So, how does shrimp cocktail, a steak dinner, and some good beer sound for dinner saturday night guys? :beer I really appreciate these guys giving up their time during the busy holiday season to come and offer me help. I don't know how I'll repay them, but I'm sure I'll be working at it for some time. Thanks in advance! :TU:

    And see you Saturday!

    John-

The trans will be coming out to to get cleaned up. It's a 4 speed and is in good shape, so shouldn't be a lot of work there. also, the frame isn't really rusty at all. It still looks pretty black, so shouldn't be too bad to get back to looking perfect. The plan for the winter is to just do from the firewall forward. The inner fender and core support do have the usual rust from the battery, so those will need repair.

    Cole-

    Pics will definitely be posted!

Hats off to Jeff, Larry, and Tom. I've met one of them and exchanged some email with another. These guys are the main reason I joined the BPG. You're weekend project is in good hands.

How about removing the grille? I'd hate to see it cracked:shock:  :ball:

Jeez, that would be too cool to be there....lucky guy Ken!

Removing the grille is more work than you'd think. If I remember correctly I would have had to remove the front bumper to get it out....

Sorry I won't be able to make it down there, I was hoping to when you first posted about it a couple months ago. I'll be moving furniture into my new place saturday. Maybe I'll be able to make it for the install party, lol

Ain't to sporting in a heated garage, this time last year I did the heads and cam... but it was 19 degrees out, had a tarp and a kerosene heater in my driveway... didn't help much... glad I have a garage in my new place.

    Good luck :TU:

Yes sir I sure did! Thanks! Thanks so much! Very nice, I'll be reading that for quite some time. I have the bolts from the spoiler ready to go, but need to drop the baffle to get the clip off to send you. I plan to do that over the weekend.

    Thank you, again!

Adam, I may try to take the grill off. But I'm concerned, based on comments here, about damaging the mounting studs in doing so.

    Hey Nick-

Sorry you can't make it down. Good luck with your new place! Working outside this time of year really sucks. I hope we can keep the garage door closed for most of this work! Kerosene heater under a tarp, eh? That's toughing it in January!

    Ken,

Get yourself a can of PB Blaster, and start soaking the nuts on the grill tomorrow.. or now, if you have a can of the "magic juice".

Then grab the studs with a vice grip, with a towel or tape wrapped around the jaws, so you don't nick them all up.

Then when everything is good and soaked, carefully see if you can break the grill nuts loose on the studs.

If you can, then remove your grill, and get it out of the work area, to a "safe" location.

You don't have to drop the bumper on a 71/2 to get the grill out, that's only on the '70 cars.

The grill is the very first thing that comes out of a car here, when we are going to do any major work.. I have 2 '71's in the shop now, both of them have had the grills removed.

It's not at all hard to lean on one of those things the wrong way, or lose you balance and reach out to grab something, and have it be that $1500 piece of plastic..

Also, I would hate to have one of your helpers accidentaly slip, an break it..

Only if it is really siezed in there, would I leave it in place..

    Hey Jim-

Actually I hit it with PB Blaster a few weeks ago! So, hopefully, it shouldn't be too bad to take off. The center two nuts were only hand tight, so I'm a third of the way there! :TU:

I will definitely be trying to take it off first thing before starting. The grill was put on only a year or so before the car went into storage, so it is practically NOS. Wouldn't want to damage it.

    Thanks for the advice!

Jeez. I feel like a dignitary. Should normally take a couple of hours, but we'll be bagging, cataloging and filming everything, so it'll add a little more time to it.

The grille is coming off. It HAS to if we are to pull the nose to get at your inner fenders and core support. No sweat. It'll survive unscathed.

I was planning to, but we're having 40 people over christmas eve, the list of ToDo's is huge, and with the snow last weekend I spent most of it playing cleanup instead of Mr. HomeImprovement......

Bench Grinder with Wire wheel (to clean bolts before bagging)
Dancing Girls (Its only gonna take 1hr to yank the motor....wife doesn't expect me home until evening :Brow: )
