Patton are these screws something you normally stock ? Or do I need to get them while you have some ?

    Mike--I stock these new.

I have also pulled MANY of these trims from windshields on various A-bodies, many with original, unreplaced windshields and haven't noticed any with a white/clear washer under the head. Just my opinion and possibly one plants or some plants used them. This is something I would have noticed as being prevalent. It isn't out of the ordinary to find these with the washer in other location applications, but I don't think they used the washers on these COARSE SHEET METAL THREAD screws.

For example, there's a similar screw used on one or both ends of the door shells/door skins when a car has an optional side trim. There is a hole in at each end of the door, for example, on a 70-72 Cutlass with the stainless midway down the door skin. The screws that were used on each end are chrome phillips also and I think had a small thin nylon washer....but I think those are machine thread screws...definitely not coarse sheet metal threads.

IMO you will be correct without any washers.

Hopefully I will soon be posting a new ad in Parts For Sale, etc sections for the headlight bearings/screws/springs AS WELL AS SOME NEW PRODUCTS I am working on. Thanks, Patton

Thanks for the info Patton . The screws you mentioned at the ends of the doors for side moulding are for sure machine thread ,and are the ones I remember did have a plastic washer . The coarse thread sheet metal screws I do not remember seeing a plastic washer

Maybe the Texas heat rotted them off?? Or maybe someone added them to mine not sure however they were under all of mine and were in rough condition. Any idea if these are the same screws used for the trunk stainless trim?

    Dave, Frank--

No--the stainless trunk trim uses a fine, machine threaded screw and also has a different head design (100% sure on the threads and pretty darn sure, without running to the garage, on the head design). This is something that could probably be duplicated semi-close in stainless steel...I will check tomorrow for a match in stainless.

By the time you add that guys shipping charges on the ebay auction those are getting fairly pricey for 7 screws. :TU:

I just checked the "archives" and the trunk trim screws are closer to the head design shown in the pic that Steve Craig posted above...except with a definite circle or ridge just around the phillips slots....not a more defined "step" like the windshield screws have....and of course, definitely machine threads with a flat/blunt tip.

Thanks for that info Patton, my car looks like it has the ones you noted and maybe another type someone replaced sometime in the past 36 years.

I tried to ignore this thread, but had to stop in and see why it was now 2 pages long! No offence tho, I'm the same way about my cars:TU:
Has anyone looked at the www.amkproducts.com catalog?
They carry tons of hardware, many of which is surplus from the original manufacturer.
Look in the 'Tapping Screws' section, pages 79-89. There are many flanged-head screws there. I'll bet you a dollar they have them.

Yes--people are pretty aware of amk on this site. That's not where I source mine.

Dave----I am pretty sure I have located the trunk trim screws in stainless steel....I'll send them seperate as I have to verify availability and order the right length (something I want to stock up on anyway). The only difference is these will not have the slight flat top area around the phillips slots...these are referred to as "round head" and/or "pan head" screws/bolts.

I will test fit one tomorrow then order the right length.

    Patton, thanks.

Walt, I will bet you 2 bucks that AMK does not have them. I have the catalog right here and have searced it from cover to cover many times and nothing they have looks correct as a match for these. If you are picky like some of us nothing but correct looking will do for a visible part like this.

Patton, I got my screws in the mail. They are outstanding. I will be proud to put those on my car. Another recommendation from a real nitpicker. Thanks again.
