So Im at home, minding my own business and I get a phone call. Guy on the phone tells me I left my name and number on his car a few years ago and he was calling to find out if I was still interested in his 70 GS. Uh...what? Says the car was parked in Oyster Bay. As he's talking im racking my brain trying to remember. Oh yeah!!! That car. It finally came to me. I was driving in that area and caught the rear bumper of a 70 GS sitting on a side street. It was really ratty bamboo cream stripper GS. Looked like it had zero options. Weird, because I thought the days of finding GS's sitting on side streets was long over. I must of been quite a few years ago because I think I was still working for Snap On. Guy evidentially kept my number. Said he's owned the car for 20+ years. Tried pinning him to a price but he wouldn't give me one, although he did say the car would be "good for parts" so he may have a realistic price in mind. Says the car runs, so that's a plus. Going to go look at it this weekend! I still cant believe the guy actually called all these years later! LOL. Im so excited!!! WOO HOO!!!! Love buying jalopies!
How good are you at selling them?? I have my 73 GS up for grabs and would trade it on a 70-72 back half roller car. Not much biting on it though..I am asking $6500 bucks for it or may consider other trades. 1 of 365 GS 4 speeds and no one really is interested..
Sounds like it is meant to be. Who knows you may buy it cheap and it could have a pile of cash in the trunk:TU:
Whats even funnier is that my friend just bought a house with a 74 Vette project car in it that he wants gone. I was emailing my friend about the Vette as a possible flip and this guy calls with the GS right in the middle of it all. I honestly took it as a sign that Jesus didn't want me to buy a Corvette.
This is why it never hurts to ask. I know 9 out of 10 times(or more) you get "I'm going to restore it" but for those times when everything lines up and they realize they aren't going to do anything with it but watch it rot. Nice find!... again. I would like to think Jesus is a car guy and says buy both!
The old ratty ones are the most fun to drive!. Speaking of leaving your number, they was b5 blue 440-4 Superbird sit uncovered on a street in an older neighborhood here in Spartanburg for over 30yrs, you should have seen the Windows they were littered with paper ,stuffed and tucked everywhere. Guy never pulled them off always made me wonder why any additional person would leave a number when the car was essentially already a Spartanburg phone book HA, I seen him out cutting grass one afternoon when I was like 17 but the Hells Angels jacket and ZZ top beard and glasses persuaded me to just keep on riding by
When it rains, it pours. my friend just texted me this picture of a car he found. ou: Im gonna be pissed if it needs an engine. I just sold the engine and transmission out of swamp thing last weekendou: I go for months not being able to find anything and now this!!
I had a similar experience back in the late '60s Jason. I left my name and number on a '62 Chrysler 300H. About nine months later I got a call. I did buy the car. Interestingly, the guy's name was Ronald Reagan - no, not the Ronald Reagan!
Jason, I can't believe how well everything aligns on the front of the '69! A little left eyebrow work and she's mint! That would be nice score and we'd love to see you become a fellow step-child!:TU: Sure looks like it's in the middle of engine work.
And the hits keep on coming... So my friend who's buying the house with the Corvette in the garage calls me up and asks me of I still want it? I told him to call the seller and offer the guy something stupid for it. He was asking 3500. I tell my friend to call the guy and offer a grand and see what he says. He calls me back laughing his butt off and tells me the guy agreed and I need to come pick it up and all the partsou: Great! How what?? sonofab.....
