So how will the high gas prices affect your Buick plans?

This year's Electra trip to the coast is cancelled, I can fly there cheaper. The Electra is up for sale. The Wildcat is still going to be finished to the point of being a solid driver, and then likely sold. The one thing I've found is once gas prices go up, they don't come back down.
Money in general is becoming more and more worthless. Inflation is a government's most subtle tool to transfer wealth away from the public at large.
Wish my salary would go up with the rate of inflation; I'd be a millionaire soon.

There is no sensor. Someone noticed your profanity laced tirade of a post and reported it. I then deleted it as ANYONE would.

I am just going to keep on truckin but maybe few less car shows. If u can afford to own & maintain your vehicle, then u should be able to drive it.

Ya, silly me.. when I set up the word censor, I left out the obvious profanity that I though anyone who would be on this board would never use.. and just listed a few "questionable ones".
Bucy mentioned it.. I said "Anyone that comes on here, and disrespects out board with profanity, will be given 3 months off to think about it".

In this case it was used as humor.. so I will waive the prize for being stupid. The repeated postings to see what could be posted had me reaching for the "user delete" button, but I will just let it pass..

And the word is spelled Censor... A "Sensor" is something that tells the PCM how hot your coolant is. :D

The gas prices hurt, but as long as my Buick has a gas tank, there will be fuel in it. As far as my daily driver goes, it's a 2012 Honda Fit (purchased new), with 120K on it currently and thankfully I work from home now. That car has been the only wise financial decision I have ever made. Zero fun, and definently not my style, but I don't feel like I have been punched in the walnuts when I do have to fill it up.

Find myself driving the 97 Riv more and more. It gets 27 mpg. I do miss the fun of the 68 and its tire roasting 10mpg as time goes by. Both require 93 oct. which is nearly as expensive as diesel.

The 97 will run on regular, you just have to stay out of boost, or keep it to a bare minimum. Do you have the will power to do that Briz?:)

I took the belt off my Regal GS to run regular when gas prices were high and I was commuting 3hrs a day.

I had two 97 Rivieras (SC) and never got more than low 20s average :(

Probably eliminating any return to Buick 400-455" ownership I might have been contemplating :( All my economic fears are being realized and I am just plain angry about it because it seemed so avoidable. I may even have to put off retirement at 60 which I was positioning myself quite well for.

Ya, you know, I was looking at Hondas, and then realized that I have a 97 Riv sitting out back, that just needs to be repaired... crank sensor so something, was running great, and then not so much, I have not had time to fool with it, other than a quick look last summer. Beth's car, we got her a 4 wheel drive crossover deal, so it's an extra now.

Will make a good parts runner, and it's a Buick, so I won't have to drive with a bag over my head.. :p

Yes, that is what mine gets mixed driving. On a long highway trip, it would get 27 MPG with the cruise on. I once took it to Norwalk and left the cruise off, kept it out of boost, and I got 32 MPG. That was before E10 though.

The Riv has a final drive of 2.05, so 60 MPH is about 1600 RPM. AT 2000 RPM, the car is doing nearly 80 MPH.

Yup, and I drive like an old lady, so running regular vs premo in it won't be a big deal.

Can't swear to the exact numbers, but Beth has had two of these, a 96 she bought new, and this 97, and I have driven both of them a bunch.. and I do recall they go down the road at very low rpm, after the converter locks up..

Well, whatever the mileage actually ends up being in the Riv, it certainly will be better than the 13 that the 3/4 ton burby gets..

Yeah, OD gear on the 4T65E trans is .705.

    2.93 X .705 = 2.06

    Tires are P225/60R-16, 26.63" tall

    336/26.63 X 2.06 X 60 = 1559 RPM

    336/26.63 X 2.06 X 80 = 2079 RPM

Sounds like the Regal has a 3.29 ratio

    3.29 X .705 = 2.32

    336/26.63 X 2.32 X 70 = 2049 RPM

I have only missed the nats twice since 1995, and I don’t plan on missing them this year, either. Although, with the price of diesel, it’s looking more and more like I’ll just drive a turbo car instead of trailering #6. My GN got 28mpg average to and from bowling green in 2002, and that was with a pair of slicks in the trunk and all my tools and Jack. Doing the math with fuel prices today is right around $600 round trip with my truck and box trailer. God knows how much diesel will cost in May, but I know which direction it’s not going.

It won't effect me, I'll go to the same shows I normally go to. We made it through this before and we will again. In 2008 it was $4.07, adjusted for inflation that's $6.25, and we lived through it. In the 70s when we were waiting in gas lines we migrated to fuel efficient vehicles, then prices normalized in relation to inflation, we migrated back to gas hogs, big pick-ups and SUVs which increased demand and made the market fragile to the point where a any ripple drives prices up. Sorry for the Economics 101 lecture. No politics involved.
