So, Thursday THIS pulls into my store parking lot. Guy says it just came from new mexico, been in a barn for like 30 years. Car is pretty original from what i could see although i am not anywhere NEAR any kind of knowledgable on these. 8X,XXX miles. While not the original polyglas, these ARE ancient Polyglas tires! Very solid car, a couple of very small dents and a "pimple" on each rear 1/4 from the bumoper jack the previous owner hadn't kept tied down. Original paint, laquer checking on top but not noticeable until you are right up on it. The car is now back "home" in the Lansing area. The guy said the previous owner was an alcoholic, hence the dents and a few small dings in the car and thren it barn sitting. He said he opened the glove box and the protecto plate, build sheet and all those goodies were in there.
Yea, he is going to order some new re-pops. He is going ot eventually re-paint it but i told him to keep it as is. you really dont notice the laquer check until you are up on it and the couple of dents are pretty small. only original once. I say run it liek this for a few years. except with some new tires!
Well I've got to say that's one olds that I wouldn't mind driving! Cool find. Like you said, I hope he keeps it as is. Not a lot of cars like that running around in that original of condition.
Please!!!! Have him call me. My cell is 816-654-3400!!! The alt is the original open face internal regulated piece and it is an air car (1 of 300 or so). Seems that most of the cars that are still around are the air cars. Sweet piece and I hope he enjoys what he has!!!!
Rusty, I have now have your cell # stored in my phone. if he comes back in, i will give it to him with strict orders to call and place an order.
for those of you not used to Canadian Humor.... The American translation is a Condom -rubber- rain coat- fun bag- paratrooper collection device . Thank you for your patience, but they are foriegn. A:laugh:
Tim, at the end of a statement from a Canadian there is an "eh" not an "a". Rubber Rusty, hahahaha, let's not confuse him with the man with the rubber hand. I thought Rusty was the Polyglas Pimp.
last time I saw one of these I had 15 hours in laying and masking out the stripes for paint on my buddys Nelsons H/O. ou: That is a super nice car! Be curious to see what number it is. The transmission last 3 tells what number the car was produced. Nelsons was 792 and yes it was a AC car as well. i think he sold his for around 50K and now has a W-31.
Mmmmm, barn fresh. Looks like there's no sign of anything under the hood ever being restored. Good reference for other H/O owners.
Very nice and original looking car! I also noticed the open face alternator, I saw 3 H/O's about 2 weeks ago, none of them had one. Those are original clamps on the top rad hose, original rad cap, etc. Only thing I can see changed is the master cylinder, which should be an oval 2 bail, but is repro'ed now. The H/O club has many of the VIN numbers of these cars...but not all. Great Olds find!!!!!
This stolen Hurst Olds came to mind when I saw the photos, but when I did a search for the article, I remembered it was a convertible:
And a clone. That is one of the difficult things about these cars. Most of the time the build sheets were removed from the cars at the end of the line (remember, these cars were breaking GM rules). If you do not have the correct parts, it is very difficult to say that it is what it was. This guy needs to photo document this car from top to bottom! Kurt Karch has the numbers that they actually recorded at Demmer Engineering, but not every car was recorded. This car is a gem, and I heard of another that was uncovered the other day.... Non-air, with dealer installed 4.33 gears, but missing the correct intake. Makes me glad mine. Was all there!
